The Melodyne key from PreSonus is a one time use only key. If you claimed it and registered in (for example) in Studio One 3 Professional, that's it, after that the produt is in your Celemony user account like any other third party product and you'd always go there to get it. You don't get another key with Pro 4, 5, etc and you cannot register the same key twice.

I bought Melodyne Studio without and S1 involvement. There is no other license in my Melodyne account. I bought S1v4 and got a Melodyne key which I sold. Now I have the upgrade to s1_5 there is a new key for melodyne in my account which is completely different. SO it seems the upgrade gets me another Essentials license - which I have no need for - but I am rechecking with CelemonyLawrenceF wrote: Sun Jul 12, 2020 10:19 am The Melodyne key from PreSonus is a one time use only key. Hi - can I quickly ask, what's going on here... you had to perform the downgrade because Melodyne Studio v4.2 is not compatible with StudioOne Pro v5..? Aren't you going to miss a ton of stuff now..? Or there was something else...?tonedef71 wrote: Sat Jul 11, 2020 11:26 pm I originally had Melodyne Studio 4.2 installed. I uninstalled it so that I could install Melodyne Essentials 5.
TIA

If you got a new Melodyne key upgrading from Pro 4 to Pro 5 it was an error. I suspect it's not different, it's maybe that the key they give you turns into a real (different) key once you register it and if you try to register that key it will fail.fairlyclose wrote: Sun Jul 12, 2020 10:26 am ] I bought S1v4 and got a Melodyne key which I sold. But once you get a Melodyne Essential key with Studio One Professional you should never get another one because you already own it.

that is what I thought too - but given this is sitting in my account I have asked Melodyne if it can be sold - otherwise at least they know there is some sort of bug in their reporting. I have no desire to cheat them out of a sale etc Worse is going through with a sale then having to refund some person who is disappointed to miss out on something they were looking forward to and ends up out of pocket for a week or so until the refund gets through the paypal/banking system .LawrenceF wrote: Sun Jul 12, 2020 10:42 amIf you got a new Melodyne key upgrading from Pro 4 to Pro 5 it was an error. So far I'm loving Studio One 5. I've activated the Sphere subscription and it's great, worth all the investment.
My main DAW is Ableton Live 10, let's see if it will stay my main after a few weeks playing with Studio One

Sphere would've been a great deal if it was rent to own like Splice. The only advantage I see is getting v6,7,8... etc. for free, but if we think how much time it took them to release v5 from v4, you'd pay like twice the price of the actual software.
As for new stuff in v5, the only thing I find to be really useful is listen bus (for room correction software) and mix scenes. Btw, can listen bus be used on an interface with only 2 outputs or you need one with at least 4 outputs? If it's the last, that's quite a bummer...

No, PreSonus gives you a new Melodyne essential key with every purchase of a SO Pro licence. I got a key with SO 3 Pro and another new key with SO 4 Pro. PreSonus still owes me a Melodyne essential key for my SO 5 Pro purchase.LawrenceF wrote: Sun Jul 12, 2020 10:19 am You don't get another key with Pro 4, 5, etc and you cannot register the same key twice.
You are correct that you cannot register the same key twice.
I'm still not sure if the Melodyne keys are tied to a particular version number, but I believe that they are. Celemony offered me a free update to version 5 when I recently registered my old key which had registered as version 4.

I'm not going to debate it here endlessly but no, you actually don't or shouldn't. Not with upgrades from Pro to Pro. Below is a copy of the standard reply that PreSonus tech support sends out when people ask that...
But again, if you got one feel lucky that something went wrong as you shouldn't have gotten multiple licences when upgrading from Professional to Professional."You were given a license for Melodyne Essential with your previous Studio One Professional product so you would not get another one. That key was a one time use only key.
Please log into the Celemony user account where you originally registered your Melodyne product and access it from there. https://services.celemony.com/cgi-bin/W ... a/wa/login"

Its a bit annoying that users get a free upgrade from essentials 4 to 5, but as I have already upgraded to Melodyne Studio 4 we get no cheaper upgrade (its 150 bucks...same as the upgrade from 3!)
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Agree. I like that they are focusing more on mixing and musicians, and not adding a bunch of stupid features to help non musicians create more loop based mechanical music. That type of music will be created by Artificial Intelligence in the near future anyway, so... you can just wait and buy a AI software that makes the music for you. And if you just want to push buttons, you still have Ableton.jamcat wrote: Tue Jul 07, 2020 8:17 pmThat's the best new feature of Studio One 5.dupont wrote: Tue Jul 07, 2020 6:39 pm nothing special for EDM producers, still no parameters automation.
A certain segment wanted PreSonus to add a bunch of gimmicky garbage for bedroom "beatmakers" and other non-musicians. PreSonus took Studio One in exactly the opposite direction.![]()
After reviewing the new features, a clear direction emerges:
PreSonus has taken Studio One out of the bedroom.
ALL of the new features are aimed at working musicians and engineers—either composing, or gigging, or working in professional recording studios.
Forget Bitwig and Live. PreSonus are gunning for the big fish, and they have Pro Tools in their sights now.

We can interpret that response from PreSonus support to mean that yes, the key is a one time use, but that does not mean the same thing as you are not entitled to another new key when you purchase another upgrade of Studio One Pro. A new Melodyne key gives you the ability to register the latest version of Melodyne. I was fortunate to have a spare unused version 4 key to register, and Celemony was gracious enough to update it to the latest version (probably because they assumed that I probably acquired the version 4 key within the acceptable grace period before release of version 5).LawrenceF wrote: Sun Jul 12, 2020 3:41 pm I'm not going to debate it here endlessly but no, you actually don't or shouldn't. Imagine performing onstage with essentially a guitar hero controller and the AI software generating new brilliant melody lines as you press buttons on the guitar hero-like controller. You could feel like a "juke box hero with stars in your eyes" as you did little more than play "air guitar". More immediate gratification with little effort... it seems like we've always been striving to get there.fedesilva wrote: Sun Jul 12, 2020 4:00 pm That type of music will be created by Artificial Intelligence in the near future anyway, so... you can just wait and buy a AI software that makes the music for you.
The theremin is an instrument that almost anyone can play without any training. Has anyone developed a digital/electronic kazoo? I suppose a musically keen ear is still needed to pull off anything listenable.

I still believe that PreSonus needs to make good on providing the Melodyne 5 essential product key in everyone's individual My.Presonus Studio One 5 Pro product page. Without that new complimentary product key, you have to hope you have a spare, unused Melodyne essential product key lying around somewhere.![]()
I'm glad you were able to fix the Melodyne 5 Essential installation-authorization issue.
Yes, I agree. Presonus should have our Melodyne Essential License info. in our Presonus Account with every version of Studio One Pro we purchase. This would make things much easier, and less confusing.
Enjoy S1Pro 5 .
