only thing I can think of is changing the vibrato speed. LFO rate is in settings, so it can be easy to miss

There are native features of the YM2612 chip and the "cpu controlled" parts of it (available in the Mod Matrix). The VGM capture only works with pure static YM2612 register values and does not capture any other live cpu controntrolled or "parameter automation" that the 68000/Z80 cpus used to do in the day. You will have to find what those did in some case (not often).

The trailer for the competing product, inSIDious, has dropped:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oHDhebFOiY
The phrase "Definitive SID Chip Plugin" does not appear to have been trademarked yet.
I am curious now how a SID emulation on the ARIA engine will compare to the SID emulation on the Reaktor engine.

a question david, i dunno if possible, might it be possible to load in SID files and play it with the plugin? maybe have the seperate sounds in the channels? like the Mega Drive one, this is great to check the sounds etc.

I tweeted about my own SID player core as early as 2015
https://twitter.com/plgDavid/status/651 ... 93696?s=20 (Missing Vine sadly)
Also those audio examples were posted 5 years ago posted when we thought we would make "chipsounds 2.0" with everything in it (how naive of us lol)

As to what form this particular player will take in the future I can only let you speculate for the moment. Whatever happens, let me just tell you this:
The Commodore 64 is by far my favorite piece of hardware ever made. Its in my DNA.
Its my teenager years spent in basements instead of playing in the sun. Its why I'm into computer audio. However advanced all other chipsynths we made are, this is the one we worked on the most.
It will be out when I feel its perfect.

thx so much im so glad you work on it with your heart cause i know this feeling and the sid music/sounds is very special (childhood) etc. for me as well! also love the Amiga 500 stuff, i still listen to sid music and all the games, just special! im fully confident this will be a great product thx david!davidv@plogue wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2020 1:34 pmI tweeted about my own SID player core as early as 2015

No more updates to Chipsounds then? I was hoping for the SID stuff in there...davidv@plogue wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2020 1:34 pm..

chipsounds is now dubbed a 'classic chip product' in here (was initially released in 2009). Don't worry it will get updates to work far in the future (example Apple Silicon), but no new features are planned for it.
I said this quite a few times but in a nutshell chipsounds is still a great source of presets and sounds. Each individual voice generator does a great job of alias free emulation of classic 8bit waveforms.
(which is still lacking in some newer emulations out there)
Yes chipsounds is based on our older ARIA engine and uses SFZ for its instrument definition, though with custom DSP modules instead of samples for a vast majority of sound sources.
The newer chipsynth line is us concentrating on all the specific details of a particular chip and its host system. It uses custom code for everything, custom interfaces to take advantages of the quirks of each of them, etc. Its not limited by any engine's feature set, etc.
chipsynths also benefits from more than 10 more years of research and reverse engineering work.
Our new engine is called Fermata yes, but it only does the UI generation and final mix but the sound engine is now custom for each product. We do everything from scratch for total control now. Yes it takes longer and we are sorry for that, but we are control freaks so

It's worth it, I love the obsessive research and the way your stuff nails the details instead of just going "eh, close enough"davidv@plogue wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 5:28 pm Yes it takes longer and we are sorry for that, but we are control freaks so

I saw the following Q&A between a user and the developer of the inSIDious virtual instrument plugin:
I am interested in hearing from David regarding Plogue's approach to implementing the SID chip's waveforms in the upcoming chipsynth 64 virtual instrument.Q. Are the combined waves really generated, or does inSIDious use samples for them? Just curious because I didn't know that anyone ever found out how the SID chip actually created combined waveforms accurately.
A. The mechanism of the waveform generation has actually been known for sometime now. However, when I used generated waves they just somehow didn't sound right to me. That might have just been my personal bias because it didn't sound like my own real SID chips. The waveform generation on the 6581 is affected by a hardware bug, so none of them sound identical. You get minor variations between chips apart from a few weird outlier chips that can sound quite different.
On top of that, doing real-time generation of the waveforms leads to aliasing at high frequencies without doing a load of oversampling and/or filtering, which is a fair amount of extra CPU for no audible gain.
And so, the combined waves have been sampled from my SID chips and processed to create wavetables across the frequency range.
