Ah, NJM-2069, best sounding filter Korg ever had. It's also in DW-6000 and DW-8000, and of course DSM-1.

Definitely worth emulating, IMHO.

This probably has been asked before - so apologies for repeating the request: can we have a built-in update function? So at least the convenience of hitting a button "check for updates now", and if any, be pointed to the download link right away?
It's climbing up on our ever growing todo list. I think we need to finally figure out if we want some kind of service center and whether or not it's optional. It's a complex issue.
Ahh, yes please! Was just thinking about this yesterday when I updated all my u-he plugins (which is many) on two computers. Not that I have to do it too often, but downloading n+1 installers separately, going through the slightly tedious installation process involving a thousand extra clicks and selections n+1 times (not really u-he’s fault, just the way installers work), then getting rid of the installer files, etc.... When all that could be automatic.

Say what you want about Plugin Alliance, but I think they are an example of how to do it properly: Open the product manager software, click once and it shows you the products you own, click install, wait for a while, boom, you are done. No unnecessary extra questions asked, no extra files lying around, no extra services running in the background (I think :o), just update the stuff you own to the latest versions and that’s it. And there are other good examples too like Toontrack etc.

But yeah, I understand it’s a pretty complicated issue. Making something look simple to the user usually takes a lot of complex work. :) Take your time, but hoping to see something like this one day!

Toontrack's download manager is also exemplary in how things are supposed to be done.

Well, given the hassle-free copy protection of U-he plugins I'm sure that whenever Urs & team do implement that update function it'll work just perfectly. Happy to wait a bit longer if the resulting solution is the most workable one :)

Tip for people installing multiple plug-ins, one after the other: Don't close the final dialog box of the FIRST install (you can close all others when they appear), but move it somewhere out of the way or hide it. This keeps you "logged in" so you don't have to enter a password for each plug-in. After a while it became so automatic to me that I once asked myself "er... did I or didn't I just install those 10 plugs… while thinking about how to fix the broken Hoover?"
:borg:
(The above works on my Macs - I don't know how Windows or Linux handles it)

No need for passwords on Windows for installers. At least when you have an standard account. On Linux it might be similar to mac.
I advise to have a look at DMGs install package. Its not that big and you can tick single plugins in it. They have only vector based GUIs though, so maybe tge installer could load the needed resources for the ticked plugins in u-he's case.

Will we be able to use Zebra 2 & Zebra 3 separately within a DAW?...or will it become one thing?

Yes, former. They'll be two distinguished plug-ins.

how hard it is to make have "distinction" optional? I absolutely hate it when new version doesn't overwrite the old one, even if it's not 1:1. so much manual labour in currently active projects to update.

Well, the whole point of Z3 was always to consolidate the clash of concepts - different editors for different types of curves, different filter types with different feature set, different distortion type of modules... these - and more - shall all be unified. But therefore they would not be backward compatible, hence need to be in a different plug-in.

Yeah you won't need to do that with Z3 because it's going to be too different from Z2, to the point of patches not being compatible. So there's nothing to update in projects - Z2 stays as is and keeps getting maintenance updates. Z3 is a new its own thing.

Happy that you decided to create a new Zebra, so you can throw a away the possibly convoluted stuff which grew over the last decade.
Sometimes it's better to take only the best things and make something new from them.
Btw is it planned that Zebra 3 will also include the RePro filters? :)

Post

I just purchased Zebra2 yesterday and I'm wondering if there is an upgrade path to Z3 when it arrives?

Something like it, yeah, but certainly not as "realistic", in order to save CPU. Keep in mind, Zebra's audio signal flow is stereo, hence an expensive filter would drain twice as much CPU.

Yes, no worries.

Urs, i asked in another thread, but didnt see the answer there, so figured to ask here :)

Are you planing on adding Attack boost/spike/punch (on virus ex) knob that boosts a bit the random clicks in the attack ? :)
