For those who are into the sound, using any other synth to make "acid" comes off like this…

…and even most of the emulations and clones aren't totally convincing. It may have failed spectacularly at achieving its intended purpose, but it's one of the greatest accidents in history.

For anyone who is interested, a factual account of the history of the 303 and how this particular machine kick started a revolution. No distortion pedals anywhere. Not until later on anyway!

that useless acid sound? that one sound that makes you see into your own soul and from looking into that tiny point in space and time realizing you are seeing all of reality from it's beginning to it's end? useless?

 yes very true!

It was just in reference to whacking anything through a pedal to get the sound. You can make most filters resonate to do acid, but in my opinion, with a 303, it's the interplay between the sequencer programming and the realtime tweaking that gives the sound. It's the movement that it creates.

Go back and listen to early acid house. Nobody was running the 303 through distortion until years later.

V-station- great synth. In fact all novation synths are great. Can't think of a bad one tbh

I played around with the V-Station a bit yesterday, inspired by this thread. :hihi: Still sounds nice to me. If I wanted to do Trance music which sounds like 1998, I would use V-Station only. :) It really has that old school VA character. Great.

I find anything else but a 303 downright lame for... well... 303 sounds. ;)

Well... as I said. :P

(Nothing against your sound. It's just that a 303 is a 303. Nothing really sounds like it.)

Have you tried ABL3? I had the hardware Roland Tb3 (the black &green unit) and I was more than happy to ditch it for the ABL3. Well worth checking
