Cubase 10 Pro Midi Editing

Hi, is there a way in Cubase to delete midi notes by double clicking as it is done in Ableton? With the object selection tool if I double click it creates a note, and by double clicking again it brings a dialog, I would like instead to delete the note.

Also when Duplicating a selection of Midi Events, the selection snaps to the end of the rightmost MIDI Note, not to the grid line, and the duplicated set of midi events will snap relative to the end of the last note, so if the end the midi note does not end on the grid line, the selection will not snap to the grid. Is there a way to avoid this, and have it behave like Ableton? For example, if I have a quarter note on beat 1, how can I select the entire BAR 1 and duplicate it? How can I select empty space?

Another thing, say I copy a set of midi notes, and I want to paste the beginning of BAR 5, to do this I have to hover the mouse over the ruler bar, click on BAR 5, and then paste. Is there a way to select the "paste" position inside the piano roll, not on the ruler bar?

That bothers me too. No time selection like Live in Piano Roll or at least smart copy like Studio One where notes snap to the next logical grid.

1. I don't think you can customize right click to delete notes. I also could not find a modifier key for this, unlike draw, which can be toggled on/off while holding ALT. For now I just highlight and hit backspace/delete or press 5 to bring up the erase tool.

2. I don't know if you can select empty space in that manner. So far, the easiest duplication solution for me is to highlight the desired notes, press CTRL + D, let go of D (keep holding CTRL), then hold on the left/right arrow keys to make adjustments.

3. If you mean is there a way to paste at your mouse pointer (Object Selection Tool) location inside of the piano roll, then I would love to know that too. Otherwise, what I do now is select the desired notes, CTRL + C, then either:

Keyboard only method: CTRL + + (num pad) and CTRL + - (num pad) to move Cubase's cursor. It follows the increments set by the quantize value in the piano roll. Then CTRL + V to paste your copied notes exactly where you want.

or

Keyboard and mouse method: ALT + SHIFT + Left Click on the piano roll to bring Cubase's time cursor to my mouse pointer's position, then press CTRL + V to paste.

If you have programmable keys/buttons on your mouse/keyboard, these shortcuts can be programmed to speed things up.

Cheers to learning! Although it can get tiring and frustrating at times, it's fun!

Yes, it makes duplicating useless (at least for me). I found a workaround is to select a group of midi events, click and hold on the leftmost midi event, Alt+drag and release the selection on the desired grid line. Anyway, this is not duplicating, rather is copying and pasting manually.

Yes range tool is only available in Edit in Place. It would be great if they add it to the regular Key Editor too.

I haven't setup any specific keys for this function, however AutoHotKey runs on all my PCs so I can address most app shortfalls to meet my workflow. I highly recommend it.

Hey thank you for your detailed response.

1. You can try this, right clicking brings the toolbar, keep holding right click and hover over the erase tool, release. For this you have to set up the right click to operate in this manner, and have CTRL+right click bring the context menu. I did this long ago, and forgot how to do it. someone here should know how to do it.

2. I am doing that at the moment, but problem persist if the rightmost midi note does not end on the grid.

Another thing: if I left click with the object selection tool and hover the mouse over the boundary of the piano roll window, it will scroll the down or up the piano roll. Is there a way to restrict scrolling the piano roll in this manner?

I also found out about Double Notes, and they can be deleted by bringing the context menu and selection Functions/Delete Doubles. is there a way to set up cubase so that it by default deletes double notes?

Yes, the G502 is an excellent mouse for DAW work and gaming! Here is my setup in case anybody wants to give it a try. It's a game changer for sure.

notes:

1) This requires you to first assign an unassigned key to the object select tool (normal sizing). This is to avoid using Cubase's default "1" which undesirably cycles between different object tool modes. I use "Y" since it's unassigned by default.

Click Edit in the tool bar -> Key Commands -> Tool folder -> Object Selection Tool: Normal Sizing. Click the "type in key" box and type "Y" then click on "Assign"

2) All macros are using the "No Repeat" macro type, except for the macro "object tool hold", which uses "Sequence" macro type. It effectively turns the assigned button into a modifier key.

This macro allows you to hold the assigned mouse button to momentarily enable the standard object selection tool. While holding this button you can select notes, move notes, extend/shorten notes, etc. The "deselect" macro allows you to deselect an accidental selection.

3) In the Logitech G Hub macro editor, I unchecked "Use Standard Delays" and deleted all of the delays between key strokes/mouse clicks.
