In Edit mode, when choosing sound, the waveform list has been shown but very very small.
I can confirm that.

May I ask what fonts are used on the windows version? I'm running K1v on Ubuntu Studio 20 in a WINE environment (because my favorite DAW is still Orion). The instrument runs well, except the labels on the buttons dont show up. I guess I have to install more windows fonts, but don't know which.

(I remember the days when I was heavily demoing the Kawai K1 in my local music store, but in the end made the decision for a Roland D20...)

Sure, the used fonts are Arial and Gadugi
https://k1v.nilsschneider.de - Kawai K1 emulated as VSTi/AU
https://heatvst.com - Android Synthesizer with full VST integration
https://gpuimpulsereverb.de - Use your GPU as reverberation DSP

So Nils, what are your thoughts on K4 and maybe giving a shot at emulating it some time down the road? :)

Post

K4 was a fantastic keyboard. The first one to turn me on to the idea of release velocity and how it could be effectively used. Which summarily also added a depth to harpsichord playability which gave me a new respect for them.

K4 and K5!

Just throwing up the ball.

Is a Kawai Legacy Collection being suggested by the masses?
I hope Kawai would go for that. Might need to be commercial,
as life calls even the best coders out of the dungeon, to pay the bills :hyper:

Any idea how close this is to a real K3? It claims to the 32 original waveforms, but obviously it won't have the analog filter and envelopes of the original. And since it appears the developer abandoned it in early 2019, there may be some other issues. It sounds good in the demo video, though.

Maybe someone who's had (or still has) a K3 can comment?

Thanks.

Once upon a time I used to own a Kawai K4 Synth but that was ..a Long time ago. I would love to see a VST version of the K4. It was a great sounding synth.

To answer my own question, after testing two versions each of the VST2 and VST3 versions of this SynthEdit plug-in, no, it does not sound like a real K3 -- unless, that is, a real Kawai K3 only output sound from the left channel. On all presets. So, after trying 4 iterations of this synth, I give up.

Others who've tried this synth have experienced the same thing. The dev never responded to their comments, so I guess that's the end of that.

I owned a K3m back in the early '90s. (Bought it unbelievably cheap from an addict looking for their next fix.)

The wave forms are close enough to spark my memory, but as you said, I don't think the filters were truly realized.
I enjoy it enough to keep me from it being a must have though.
I sold many K5s and K1s though.
Something I like about this plugin is that eight bit sound with a 16 bit output. The original really suffered at the point of output which made it unbearably noisey to me. And too many times I've heard inceptions of other eight bit synths that lose all their charm getting emulated in the 16 bit realm. This one kind of nails the best out of it for me.

Even the K5 had a noisey output, although I believe it was considered a twelve bit machine?
I loved its concept though and loved programming it.
As I said before, the K4 was the best thing they came up with at the time. And I actually liked it better than my M1.
TBH, once the K3m was gone, I really don't think about it until these threads bring it up again.

Does the plug-in output sound in both channels for you, @BBFG#? If so, which DAW are you using, and which version of the plug-in?

Yes. Both in Cubase and Cakewalk.
Have to double check, but fairly sure the version is 1.01?

But I have yet to actually use it in any productive way. It's just a nostalgic thing to play once in awhile. Sparks memories and inspires from those is all.

Thanks for checking. No luck in Cakewalk here, with 1.01, which was the final release of the plug-in.

I don't expect to get anything "productive" out of it, anyway. I'd just like to hear what I missed by not having a K3.

But I'd like to hear it in both channels, if possible. ;)
