Mixing within a Rack filter - elegant options?

I'm trying to transfer old projects into a modern setting and am wondering if there's a neat way to organise routing options in a similar way to eXT1, which allows for inserting mini mixers with user definable number of channels. I'm looking at a rack filter and thinking the only obvious way to do the same thing would be to use individual volume/pan filters, but this would create a visual mess within the rack. Unless I can put a rack within a rack... nope. Just tried.
I'm guessing there are a few free vst mixer options, but they probably have a set number of inputs and outputs... which might be OK, but might look very messy.

I'm getting acquainted with Waveform Free, having previously been a user of an early version of Tracktion, mostly 1.somethingorother. Submix, aha, basically routing tracks into other tracks?
No, I need ways to route the multiple outputs, probably 8 or so, of a vst instrument to different effects, whist being able to mix levels, prior to this being outputted to two channels. Unless there's some patch bay options I'm not aware of, I don't think this can be done outside of a rack filter.

Have you checked how Racks are used to deal with multi-output plugins?
In waveform11, I can just redirect the output of all the track being fed by the Rack to another track... if you redirect multiple tracks to the same track, they get mixed. Its the speaker icon to the right of the M/S buttons.

Ah, thanks whyterabbyt, I didn't realise that was possible. That certainly would give a lot of options... probably would work quite well. Great.
I guess this ties in with the idea of Tracktion, I mean Waveform, having a mixer... something I didn't expect to see. I seem to remember many debates on this topic all those years ago, and it seemed against the design ethos. But I'm sure it has benefits.

Its always had a mixer, it just didnt have a separate 'mixer view' that replicated the mixing controls (meter, vol, pan, M/S etc) the track view has.
Note : If you've got the Mixer view open, you'll need to click on 'Show Outputs' if the output reassignment button isnt there below the volume controls. Button is to the bottom right on the Mixer view

Against the design ethos? I would never buy Waveform without the mixer. I really don't understand why they resisted putting it into Waveform (Traction) for so long.chagzuki wrote: Sat Aug 01, 2020 5:17 pm Ah, thanks whyterabbyt, I didn't realise that was possible. Tracktion was rethinking the paradigm, and since everything is visible in the tracks it seemed superfluous to many... including me. There was no piano roll window either, it was all done within the clips. I found that fine too... since the incorporation of mouse wheel navigation made getting around way speedier than in other software. I'm guessing most other sequencers have since mimicked the mouse wheel navigation, but at the time (early 2000s) it was revolutionary in terms of workflow. Having said that, I'm liking the piano roll window at the moment.
