MetricAB is the spiritual successor to Sample Magic’s Magic AB plug-in, which was released a few years back, and has been designed by producer Marc Adamo under the name ADPTR Audio in conjunction with Plugin Alliance.

Mastering the Mix Reference.

It's more than A/B though, it's A/B/C/D/E/F and G :)

SampleMagic's MagicAB is dead, FWIW.

'In DAW' MetricAB is by far the best for my workflow. I also own MTM Reference and Ozone 9, but never using them anymore since I got MetricAB and it is far superior.

For 'out of DAW' I use Lacinato ABX/Shoutouter which is free. Although they could work on the interface it helps me easily compare several versions with gain matching. Can also do blind tests.

It has been mentioned multiple times, but definitely a +1 for Metric AB.
Take care

metricAB

I've only used the free version of HOFA BlindTest, which has been a really solid freebie for this purpose

MetricAB sure is getting a lot of love here though, might have to check it out if it pops up in the PA summer sale

Also using MetricAB here, which i grabbed for 39$ i think. It's great to have all the important metering stuff like loudness, spectral balance, stereo image etc. of two tracks side by side.

How is MetricAB better than Mastering the Mix Reference?

I'm a big Reference fan but I own MetricAB though hardly use it - I'm willing to be convinced as to why I should use it instead though.

Post

I had previously purchased Magic AB, but my key doesn't work anymore, and it isn't supported, so am also looking for something similar. Would pick up MetricAB if it was on sale again.

Same developer iirc with MetricAB being the far superior product. Good news is that the next PA mega sale is never too far away. And if you haven't already, you can use the survey voucher for an extra $25 off.

MetricAB, what else?

Much better workflow (IMO), better navigation of the tracks, mass loading of tracks. Saving tracks as preset / directory, Integrated loudness comparisons through different methods. Overlaying the EQ curve. directly comparing loudness meters. Mostly midi controllable. Different filters for soloing. Easy Lp/Hp/Bp filtering. There's so much goodness in MetricAB.
MtM Reference is like a little brother, or even baby compared. But it has a different workflow of course. I've used reference for almost a year when I jumped to MetricAB and never went back.

Technically not a plugin but Mastering the MIx EXPOSE is my #1. Inside the DAW it's Mastering the Mix Reference.

Yes, Expose is great. I wish they would implement more stuff from Reference there (already requested). To have a better offline comparison.
I love Lacinato ABX tool for easily jumping between tracks and blind testing is also possible https://lacinato.com/cm/software/othersoft/abx
Something like that could be implemented into Expose with additional filtering features from Reference and it would be perfect.
