Presonus studio one 5 just came out with a score editor. Worth a test once they release the trial version. Would they license the code?
I don't record any instruments live, I construct my music.

PreSonus acquired the full notation editing program Notion a while back. They had previously offered some integration, such as moving song data back and forth between programs, but Studio One 5 has now incorporated internally some of this code so now you you can have a full side-by-side notation view available next to your piano roll view or drum editor view. Sounds very cool!harvon wrote: Sat Jul 25, 2020 12:57 am Presonus studio one 5 just came out with a score editor. Worth a test once they release the trial version. Would they license the code?
Even Reaper or the free Cakewalk has a basic notation view. Hopefully Waveform will jump aboard the trend. This would be a great option to offer composers along with the MIDI pattern generator and chord track!

Don, the developer of Overture, a standalone scoring and notation application, previously approached the Cakewalk management when they were still owned by Gibson with an offer to incorporate his code into the Cakewalk Sonar DAW product. It would have been a nice move to upgrade the bare bones native notation in the Cakewalk Sonar application.
But the previous management didn't view the move as a high enough priority, evidently.
Maybe Tracktion could strike up a partnership with this Overture developer? He runs a small shop. Maybe that could be a good match! https://sonicscores.com/

Overture... I removed it from my computer very soon. Bad bugs appeared rather quickly when I played with a trial (January 2020).
I'm however quite satisfied with Musescore, a free notation software, it's a pleasure to use.

Yes that would be an option as well. I like MuseScore. Especially since the code is free and open source!harvon wrote: Sat Jul 25, 2020 11:16 pm Overture... I removed it from my computer very soon. Bad bugs appeared rather quickly when I played with a trial (January 2020).

But the open source license may pose an issue for using the code in the commercial Tracktion license. I'm not a lawyer, so cannot speculate on those details.

It's possibly a user issue. What bugs are you referring to? What did you test in the trial?harvon wrote: Sat Jul 25, 2020 11:16 pm Overture... I removed it from my computer very soon. Bad bugs appeared rather quickly when I played with a trial (January 2020).

I wrote January 2020:
"I ended my overture trial very quickly. Mousing some notes into score, changing my mind about what the meter should be and cut/paste moving note groups around in score brought the thing in disarray. The play engine didn't play anymore what the score showed but something else. Any normal beta testing should find and remove these kind of bugs."

Well the developer is a 1 man show, so patience is sometimes a virtue. He is quite active in the user forum, and usually addresses any bugs reported by users in the next release. Not that bugs are ever good, but sometimes accidental ones slip in when improvements are made.harvon wrote: Sun Jul 26, 2020 5:43 am I wrote January 2020:

MuseScore is working on a big update, including VST and NotePerformer support!
https://musescore.org/en/MuseScore4
Maybe Tracktion could strike some open source partnership there? A mutual benefit?

Exciting news, really. But I'd rather hope for fixing of bugs in current state of Waveform.piccolo wrote: Wed Aug 05, 2020 1:47 am MuseScore is working on a big update, including VST and NotePerformer support!

There is always the guy in [fill in the name of DAW forum here] who says this anytime a discussion of notation is a DAW is brought up.Kott wrote: Wed Aug 05, 2020 4:14 amExciting news, really. But no DAW will ever be very interesting to the educational market (which normally teaches music theory using little blobs on a staff view) until it has at least some form of notation integrated. Many of those students will go on to use the tools that they learned on someday in their musical careers.
So I say grow the market for Waveform by making it appeal to a wider audience. More money, more bug fixes!

Aha. New feature (which requires money obviously) brings new bugs that need new feature for more money to fix these new bugs.So I say grow the market for Waveform by making it appeal to a wider audience. More money, more bug fixes!

And this is fairly. Why should this guy interested in some feature for otherpeople while he can't normally use the tool that he payed for? There is always the guy in [fill in the name of DAW forum here] who says this anytime a discussion of notation is a DAW is brought up.

Don't see the point in discussing this any further with someone who has made up their mind that they don't need or want this feature. Your position is clear.Kott wrote: Wed Aug 05, 2020 10:34 pmAha. Maybe we need a poll where everyone gets one vote. But since beatmakers seem to outnumber real musicians these days, that would probably be a waste of time.
