I am unable to add midi output pins to my vst (stochas.vst) and the --Right-click the VST plug-in in the rack slot and choose "Setup Aux Ins/Outs"-- does NOT appear to be a thing... In fact "Setup Aux Ins/Outs" can't be found ANYWHERE... WIN 10, Mulab 8.6.9... PLEASE HELP!

From the manual...
"When inserting a VST plug-in into a rack, you don't immediately see the extra inputs/outputs of a VST plug-in. If you want to have control over these auxiliary inputs/outputs there are 3 options:

Insert a MUX in that rack and then insert the VST in that MUX. Then in that MUX's modular area you'll see all the inputs/outputs of the VST and you have all creative freedom to use them as you want. Also note that another advantage of working this way is that you can save this MUX as a preset that can be re-used in other projects, for example you can make VST presets that include a complete sub-mix setup!
Right-click the VST plug-in in the rack slot and choose "Setup Aux Ins/Outs". Then you can choose which auxiliary inputs/outputs should be imported/exported from the rack. When that's done the rack will have the extra inputs/outputs that directly represent the auxiliary VST inputs/outputs. Then go to the modular area containing that rack and there you can connect things as you want. If you want certain VST plug-ins to always import/export certain auxiliary inputs/outputs whenever it's plugged in, you can define this in the VST Plug-In Manager -> right-click the VST plug-in -> Edit Extra Options. This avoids having to do "Setup Aux Ins/Outs" again and again if you want that to be default behavior.
Insert the VST in the project's modular area and connect things as you want, similar to the first option, but here you can also add racks to the VST outputs and so these racks will also show up in the rack mixing desk.
Cheers in advance.

Right-click the VST and choose Info.
How many audio outputs pins does the VST have?

Post

it says 2... I used to be able to manually set this in Mulab but can't work it out/find it anymore.

A VST host cannot change the number of outs of a VST plugin.
It's the VST plugin that defines how many outs it has.

So if that VST says 2 out pins = 1 stereo out then indeed you won't see the "Setup Auxiliary Ins/Outs" option as there only is 1 out.

OK...So it uses different midi channels, but I'm assuming through 1 midi path? So I intuitively want to have multiple outs for each channel (bus)... I'm gathering what my brain is interpreting is incorrect? So how do I create the multiple channel busses? (sorry if my terminology is wrong here... I mix with Reaper DAW).

Thanks in advance.

SOOOO.... Wrapped it into a MUX... Hope I did it right?

There's so little information on how to use this software (videos) that it's criminal... Such great software trapped behind such a steep learning curve, and lack of real world examples of 'how to'. I find myself coming back every couple of months, attempting to use it... Getting frustrated that I am totally 'doing it wrong', looking for tutorials, finding only super basic vids (explaining nothing of any advanced workflows) asking for help on the forum... Waiting 24hrs for replies, Feeling SUPER unproductive, getting answers that lead to just more questions... Feeling like I'm nagging the forum for basic info (which is very embarrassing) then just giving up again and staring longingly at the Mulab icon until I forget the frustration and try all over again in a couple of months.

PLEASE just do a video series on beginner to advanced workflows (with verbal explanations of what's being shown), PRETTY PLEASE... I buy every update, I pay for Mulab and MUX, I want so bad to get good, but it's like working blindfolded... I am just too stupid to get over the hump as is... I know I'm not the only one, I run a sound and music school with my wife, and am always looking for good value tools to teach... But I can't even work this one out.

So again, as I do every couple of months, I ask for more instruction, probably won't get it again, but I'm still trying.

Anyways... Have a great day all... Fingers crossed :)

Could it be that you're mixing up audio outputs with midi channels?

When the VST synth you're talking about is multi-timbral and it only has 1 stereo audio output then you could send a feature request to the VST plug dev to ask for multiple audio outputs.

With my track record I could be mixing up what planet I'm on... I want MIDI outputs, in the plugin (which just became free) it has 4 layers that can be switched to different midi channels to send to different instruments. It's a stochastic sequence generator. Hope that explains. In reaper I just select a midi bus channel from all available midi channels (which in Mulab I have to switch to modular by adding a midi channel splitter module in a MUX, at least that's how I managed to do it?).

Something my brain expects to be a right click option (like an auto mux layout preset that wraps around a plugin in a rack, just right click the rack plugin slot and select 'enable midi out mux' (or something smarter)... and each plugin window toolbar should have an 'input midi' option so you can setup inputs without closing the plugin... Having change windows to go back through a plugin setup to adjust routing is jarring, it seems unintuitive to have such a basic function not immediate, but needing to be set up from scratch... Just my opinion tho.

I feel like some macro actions in the right click "functions" menu could work wonders for the workflow, and smooth out the hopping between compose, edit, and modular pages. If I could do all basic DAW work without needing the modular window, composition would feel a lot smoother. Again, just my opinion... I'm sure there is plenty who disagree.

Anyway... Great software, getting better all the time :)
