Logic "Tube EQ" vs any other pultec emulation

Quick question. Anyone have any thoughts about the how the "Tube EQ" in Logic fares against other Pultec style EQ plugins, like say PSP NobleQ, for example? Any thoughts? Is there a pultec-style EQ plugin I should consider? I have the Tube Tech emulation from softube as a "Rack Extension" plugin but I'm looking for a different one in Audio Units for Logic.

I've never used a real Pultec, but NobleQ is the best sounding character eq in my plugin folder. I can remember that there was a thread on gearsluts, where most of the useres prefered the NobleQ over the UAD emulationdeggy wrote: Thu Aug 06, 2020 12:58 am Quick question. The most popular free pultec emulation is this one:

If you are going to use Logic, some of the stock effects are really great, there's no need to spend ridiculous money on 3rd party stuff that doesn't offer much over them.

The Blackrooster Pultecs are also pretty fine!

+1
out of all i tried (incl softube tubetech's, which is a bit unfair but anyway) i by far prefer blackrooster. a lot over logic.
Logics vintage eqs are nice but are a tad on the dirty side.

NoiseAsh Rule Tec is the one to beat when it comes to pultecs imo.

Yepp, that sominus one is another Goodie!
One of the most 'overlooked' yet still very awesome 'pultecs' might be the Ozone Vintage EQ; people just dont get it, because it doesnt look like one.

IIRC It doesn’t saturate at all so it’s just curves (like softube)El°HYM wrote: Thu Aug 06, 2020 4:14 pm Yepp, that sominus one is another Goodie!

"Pultec EQ Shootout – with Sound Samples
Apogee FX Rack , Avid Pultec Bundle, IK Multimedia T-Racks, iZotope Ozone 8 Vintage EQ, Softube Tube-Tech, Universal Audio UAD-2, Pultec EQP-1A, Waves PuigTec"
https://www.sweetwater.com/insync/pulte ... d-samples/
On Gearslutz it seems more posters preferred Ozone, which surprised me.
"Lindell vs Softube vs Black Rooster"
There's also Acustica Purple 2, which posters on Gearslutz who like Black Rooster more than the others seem to prefer over Black Rooster. Acustica has two free Pultec emulations, one that only has a low end boost/cut and one that is more heavily colored.
(I've been researching this because I'm trying to decide whether to get the Black Rooster while it's on sale, since I already have Ozone, IK, and Lindell.)

You are actually right; circuit - modeled but without the distortion, so basically just the curves, yepp. https://www.izotope.com/en/learn/4-uses ... dules.htmlPloki wrote: Thu Aug 06, 2020 5:52 pmIIRC It doesn’t saturate at all so it’s just curves (like softube)El°HYM wrote: Thu Aug 06, 2020 4:14 pm Yepp, that sominus one is another Goodie!

Commenters on Gearslutz say they preferred Ozone in the Sweetwater Pultec shootout because it sounds more "three-dimensional", whereas the others sound "flat". I'm not completely sure what they mean though....Ploki wrote: Thu Aug 06, 2020 5:52 pmIIRC It doesn’t saturate at all so it’s just curves (like softube)El°HYM wrote: Thu Aug 06, 2020 4:14 pm Yepp, that sominus one is another Goodie!

The Softube high end sounds gorgeous, so I doubt it could just be reproduced with a static EQ curve?...

good curve i guess. I don't have the demo anymore, but i remember when i gave it a whirl that it didn't introduce any saturation whatsoever, which put me off a little since i wanted one with some flavour - which BRA hasOu_Tis wrote: Thu Aug 06, 2020 6:14 pm

i might get the tubetech once because i do like how it sounds, it's just not a priority.

While it was modeled at a circuit component level to match the frequency response characteristics of the original, it is free of the noise and harmonic distortion present in the originals. The result is what we might call an “idealized” model.
Its all pretty vague, what they actually did here, yet iZotope also mos def knows their Game & I know quite a few who really like the Vintage EQ. One thing to keep in Mind though, is that you would need the Ozone Advanced version to use it as a individual plugin. Still worth to check out, imho. About the 3D Effect, dunno that should be another hint at good programming & Algorithms used here, which they are surely capable of.By removing the noise and distortions, but maintaining the classic Pultec EQ curves, you can maintain more control over your signal. If saturation and harmonic distortion is something you want, you can easily add it to taste with either the Exciter module, or one of the other vintage modules.
