To be specific I have a bunch of sitar samples but the closest I can define is Ethnic - Other. I would like to add Sitar as a subcategory under Ethnic.

Any idea how to do this? The relevant section is around page 660 of the manual but I can't see if it's possible to add additional ones. Bit unfair to the Eastern world if not TBH.

Is the stuff described on page 675 what you're looking for maybe? https://steinberg.help/cubase_pro/v10.5 ... ual_en.pdf

Thanks. This is what I was mentioning as being included on page ~660 (slightly different numbering due to still being on v10). I can add attributes such as BPM, time signature, key, etc. but not anything in the instrument categorisation.chk071 wrote: Tue Apr 21, 2020 1:34 pm Is the stuff described on page 675 what you're looking for maybe? https://steinberg.help/cubase_pro/v10.5 ... ual_en.pdf

i don't think you can add to the categories but you can add other tags. for your sitar samples i would personally categorize them as Guitar/Plucked>Ethnic then add you own Sitar tag then add that in media bay.
i have attached a screen shot of a sitar sample i found in my library and set it up as i explained above. in the drop down menu you can see the other tags I've added as i have gone along. you can also add your tag in the columns of the attributes filters and result window.
would that help?

my explanation of adding your own tags was a bit vague.
open media bay
ensure attribute inspector is visible by toggling it panel button
click the cog next to defined
hit the + to add a tag
give it a display name (other tags was my dull effort)
give it an attribute type of text
click close
it will appear under Various at the bottom
make sure its checked so its a usable tag
when its all set up click the cog again to close it
now your new tag will appear at the bottom
double click the right panel to add Sitar

Yes, it definitely does. I was a little stuck initially because the Various -> Other Tags section didn't appear for me and I needed to create it. So now I can continue the extremely labourious task of flaggins all my samples
Thanks again!

Cool stuff humpo.
Is there a way to add multiple tags to one field? For example, I want "Sitar, India, Cool" all entered as tag words within "Other Tags". For comparison, when you edit "character", a big list comes up with various options to click. But editing the "text" field of "Other Tags" only allows one tag word at a time. Separating by comma, +, spaces, etc does not seem to separate the tag words.

I figured out the answer to my question. Use a | (shift + \) in between the words. But it seems to only work on some attributes, namely, "Keywords" as far as I have seen.GMusic wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2020 9:42 am Cool stuff humpo.

For example, typing: "cool|sitar|india" into a text field such as "Keywords" will result in the splitting of each word, and therefore each word will show up separately in the search field. So under the "Keywords" search field column, "cool" "sitar" and "india" will be listed separately. Yet, one or all three of those words could be tied to any one or more samples.

No worries. I am saddened that it does not work on other attributes, including custom user attributes. I've been trying so many different symbol combinations like a madman tonight, without any success. Maybe the Keywords attribute is just special.
Also keep in mind, unlike the Character attribute, the Keywords attribute uses an "or" type filter. In other words, when you select a keyword, such as "Cool" it will show all samples tagged with that keyword. If you wanted to narrow it down further and select a keyword such as "India" so that it only shows samples tagged with keywords "Cool" and "India", you cannot do this. Even selecting both keywords by using CTRL will result in an "or" type filter.
Perhaps an expert in XML could shed some light. But I have a feeling this is hard coded in Media Bay.
