Well there are SOME ways of bending the wavetables, at least :)

Post

Minor issue? When I am on an LFO or S-LFO and I click a mod source like modwheel, the little arrow of the unselected s/lfo does not turn blue which is slightly confusing. When you go from one lfo to another the unselected lfo does turn blue and it kind of threw me off.

Post

The down arrow is just for focusing a diferent LFO in view, when you're in mod assign mode, you can change to another LFO and modulate its parameters. Orange arrow means "this is the LFO you're looking at". It's explained in the manual. :)

First row modulators, AEG/FEG and macros have nothing to do with this, it's purely a feature just for LFOs.

I couldn't sleep last night, therefore I decided to play a little bit with Surge.
This isn't my entry for this month:-)

So here's a question for the OSC judges

I just now pushed an incredibly early unacceptably klunky UI but fully functional for making a waveform version of an MSEG modulation source to the nightly, so we can begin alpha testing it for 1.7.2. 1.7.2 will be out in November so obviously you can't use it in the August OSC.

But the nightly is out now. And it has that feature. If you use it, there's no guarantee that your patch will work the same in 1.7.2 (we don't guarantee nightly new features are backward compatible with other nightlies in between releases). And it might crash. But you can do an mseg modulation. https://surge-synthesizer.github.io/nightly

so is that fair game for an OSC entry to use this bleeding edge feature?

Post

You know, no doubt it adds another dimension to the sound design, but Surge already offers more than most will get to use in this round, I imagine.
Truth be told, if there was a vst2 of it, I'd totally test the heck out of it, I would not be able to stop myself! :hyper: ...but that's how I feel anyway with your treasure to the world!

Post

Hey everybody, I'm thinking of giving one instance a go but I want to check before I go too far down the rabbit hole: are there any built-in Surge wavetables that I'm **not** allowed to use? For example, can I use "Emu VSCO > One Shots > DR Soft Kick"? If I can't use this I will have to rethink my approach a bit for one instance. Thanks!

Post

imo Using any wavetable sample as a 'one-shot' is effectively sample playback, and should be avoided in OSC.

Surge is probably the best synth we have had for a 'single instance' entry. Last time around I entered a track using just two instances, with at least six discrete sounds, using both scenes and the 8 macros to mix between.

I would suggest probably not at this stage, as its not yet part of an official release. However, nightly builds are not strictly off-limits as they can provide fixes for issues with existing features and we have allowed these in the past.

Pretty insane, Eauson! :hyper:

@ Taron :)
Haha, this synth is insane, although I’m not likey the adsr’s :(
I had something else going on but it just fell apart, so the heat subsided last night and made this in a few hours.
Could do with refining, but it’s not always possible to polish a :turd:
:D

aIN'T no turd, mate! :uhuhuh: ...pretty good, growing showcase for the coolness of Surge! 8-)
I don't mind the envelopes, especially the secondary, replacing LFOs...that's really good control! But I know what you mean, too... it's a bit different. Still rockin'!

Just a quick demo I thought I'd share - I think this might be one of my favourite snare patches that I've made: A full-bodied snare, probably somewhere between a Linn and a real one...? (I really hope it's as "in-the-pocket" as I think it is - my opinions often change on an hourly basis!)

I said no fx, but it does go through the master chain here, so there's some slight colouring, saturation and dynamic control going on outside of Surge.
