serum has it and it's amazing using it in bitwig. U-he is my favorite synth maker by far....when will u guys have MPE support in ur synths like serum does? (theres' a bunch of other synths that have it too)

Post

by the way...i dont even have a ROLI. im just trying to get instant pitch per note adjustment in the piano roll. and whatever else i want adjusted per note in my u-he synths

Post

AFAIK only Zebra of U-he's lacks MPE support.

Post

no. the u-he products don't have Full MPE support. It's kind of a haphazard way of supporting it from what i can tell. Not a full clean way. That's why on the ROLI site it says its not fully supported but they suggest a 'workaround' which isn't a smooth user experience

"im just trying to get instant pitch per note adjustment in the piano roll." - that should work just fine with any of our multi-channel MIDI enabled plug-ins (ACE, Bazille, Diva, Hive, Repro). You just need to make sure your piano-roll is MPE compatible and sends dedicated pitch bend on the same MIDI channel as the notes you're trying to bend. This also accounts for ModWheel, selected MIDI CC, PolyAT and whatever else there is to MPE.

IIRC the one thing we didn't implement is "MIDI Channel 1 as master" which kind of defies the purpose for me - it's "make things un-poly", but then, maybe one day we'll add that as well and call it "full MPE".

It does not defy the purpose of it! If you look at a Roli with its extra sliders and pad, or even any other MPE compatible controller which might have a sustain pedal or volume pedal input, you would need to send this information to all voices. That is the purpose of the master channel, anything you send on that channel will be transfered to all voices...
For a lot of ways to play it might not be that crucial and I have a lot of fun with playing my Diva on a LinnStrument, but something like sustain should simply work as specified in the MPE specs...

That sounds to me like it’s an issue of specific implementation of controllers. Why cripple the standard and lose a voice instead of simply putting the burden on the controller, which hopefully sends MIDI via USB?

Also, I found +/- 48 semitones pitchbend unbearable as some forms of synthesis simply can‘t handle it. With the master channel this adds up to 96 semitones - infra to ultra sound -, meaning extra layers of safe guards for, say certain physical models, and thus possibly more CPU.

I do get the appeal though and I’m happy to admit that our approach (which was designed pre-MPE) was targeting production use and host automation, not live performance. So we have had a concept to add the master channel as an option for a while, but we simply still have other priorities atm.

to piggyback off my last post...does anyone know how to do this with diva or repro etc and not have it be just pitch, but a different thing i can edit in BITWIG piano roll? in the same way they do micropitch??

Post

There should be aftertouch and MIDI Cc#74 available per note. Also ModWheel. Check our user guides on setting the first MIDI Modulator to CC#74. Many factory presets in Diva respond to it, some do in Repro. I guess all presets react to ModWheel and/or Aftertouch.

got u. so for instance i could set the filter cutoff to a midi cc? then edit that in the same way i do micropitch in bitwigs piano roll?

Only those that are available as a modulation source.
