I checked that a plugin I'm using in my Surge project is only free for a limited time (coreFX volume former), should I replace it with something other?

I hope that you will be answered by more experienced people in this matter. But I remember earlier it was mentioned that the plugin can be left if the period of its free receipt captures the time of OSC and voting. Especially if it is already deeply integrated into the track and/or it is difficult to find an equivalent replacement. I hope you will get other answers.

Kind of a hair-splitting topic. But consider what this is really about! I believe, you should try to find a replacement for it. Thing is, if no commercial plugins are allowed, any trial period doesn't change the nature of the product, being commercial.
Something tells me, though, you'll find a good replacement or alternative approach. Might even be a good exercise?!

Not an entry, just noodling around with the updated "sine" oscillator. In the hands of someone more skillful than me, I think there could be some very pretty sounds to be had there.

(The "no covers" rule is a killer for me. I trained as a classical pianist. Covers are the only thing I know how to do!)
As well as the different "sine" shapes, I'm enjoying the noise mode on the LFOs. You can effectively add drift to any parameter you like, which helps make things sound a bit more organic.

Hm, that is fascinating! I wonder what keeps you from composing.
• Is it that you were intimidated by the masterful compositions you are asked to play?
• I assume you have had enough music theory in your training to be fairly comfortable stringing harmonic progressions together
• you love to perform the music of others, which moves you and challenges you. Have you not yet dared to look within you for your own music?
I'm almost certain you are far more eloquent and inspired than you realize and I totally hope that the OSC will bring it all out of you!
..."updated" sine oscillator? From a nightly or the version we all have? (Sorry, if that's a dumb question!)

Lovely sound, I instantly though Jethro Tull's Bourée, originally Bach isn't it? And yes, the expanded Sine oscillator has major potentialahanysz wrote: Mon Aug 17, 2020 10:32 am Not an entry, just noodling around with the updated "sine" oscillator. Not consciously intimidated. It's just that I haven't yet caught up on the last 400 years of music, and talented people are still writing new stuff faster than I can learn to play it. I do indeed love to perform the music of others, and haven't ever felt short of things to do as a musician.Taron wrote: Mon Aug 17, 2020 10:56 am Hm, that is fascinating! Although, seeing the supportive community around the OSC and the inspiring range of musical styles represented here, I do feel a little bit tempted. I just need to find that spare 8th day of the week...

Right, from the first suite for lute. This stuff never gets old :-)Shifrin wrote: Mon Aug 17, 2020 11:01 am I instantly thought Jethro Tull's Bourée, originally Bach isn't it?

I normally do side chain compression, but sometimes it's fiddly to do. Also I found that, quite often side chain signal bleeds in audible click, probably depends on what compressor is being used. Because of this I was searching for similar plugin to LFO tool, but haven't found anything, so I was very happy when I got CoreFX Volume Former for freeTaron wrote: Mon Aug 17, 2020 9:23 am Kind of a hair-splitting topic. @Matt: Ah, yes, the sine alone has much to explore for sure! Very cool!
...to me, music first is a feedback reflection for my heart and mind. Existing music is almost like a delightful voyeurism to me, or- in all the best cases- like listening to someone's philosophical exploration/expression, dared to be shared. To play the music of another- to me- is expressing true, extraordinary admiration and/or adoration. Happens like once every 10 years or so, haha.
@MrKarolus: I virtually always just use MuLab's compressor's side-chain, which is pretty flipping solid as far as I can tell. I did play with a few free vsts for waveshaping, which seem to do the whole clicking thing, if you try to get it tight. But I'm way behind on that stuff, to be honest. Another reason why I don't dare go dubstep.

Try this: TAL-Filter-2 and forget the clicks.MrKarolus wrote: Mon Aug 17, 2020 11:49 amI normally do side chain compression, but sometimes it's fiddly to do. Of course there is always an option to do volume automation.

Edit: In "Modulation Type" choose volume.

Heh, almost the opposite of how I feel. I'm not confident that I have anything to add to other people's work as a performer, so I only do my own stuff. Well, not entirely true: When I doodle aimlessly on the piano, I play lots of cover stuff – but I would never post any of it online! Well, perhaps Autumn Leaves. I do like my lounge version of Autumn Leaves.ahanysz wrote: Mon Aug 17, 2020 10:32 am (The "no covers" rule is a killer for me. I trained as a classical pianist. @L-EctroBit Thanks, TAL-Filter-2 works great!
I had this plugin for a while, but somehow overlooked that it has volume modulation

You could give MeldaProduction MTremolo a try. Use it in 100% Custom Mode which allows you to draw the curve you want.MrKarolus wrote: Mon Aug 17, 2020 6:23 am I checked that a plugin I'm using in my Surge project is only free for a limited time (coreFX volume former), should I replace it with something other?

If you happen to be using Ableton, you can use Autopan to sidechain. No clicks.
