As I said in the video, I am quite impressed with it as a audio production platform. Not that impressed with the MIDI functionality because I find it to be a bit cumbersome. However, does offer quite a bit of configurability and customization.
It has a very small memory footprint (you can run it on a thumb drive) and is light on resources. As far as the UI, some people think it is something about the throwback but I grew up working with early versions of Cakewalk so it is kind of nostalgic for me. The price is right and it is quite stable. And I like the included effects. YMMV.

Reaper is my main Daw and I love it...
It's very flexible , I use it to compose, mix, master, and to teach too.
It seems to be used a lot by the kvr community too, just look at the osc challenge submissions for exemple.
But it can be pretty hard to learn and customize in depth, and the amount of options and configurations can be overwelming.
Probably why it get hated too...

I noticed that Haywyre is moving to Reaper from Ableton Live due to its custom scripting capabilities:

I think you meant to say several things in one sentence:
- It takes minimal space on the disk drive (you could quote the amount of kilo or megabytes of the install folder)
- It requires not that much memory (you could quote the amount of kilo or megabytes repored to be occupied by the running process)
- It can run "portable" from a USB stick.
Anyway, sorry to say you opened Pandorra's box. Reaper jokes ("have you tried it?") have been running here for a decade or so. You love it or hate it with a passion. Thb I don't care.

It's like Frankel lost the spirit or something - nothing much was introduced to v6.x.
Version 5 - if it was plenty things, VST3 support, official Waves support and a bunch of things. Was it ARA support as well.
This shows some hunger in developing further.
But it's been 15 years with the same product now, and he maybe hoped it would be sold off - like WinAmp he once did.
I tried twice to really like Reaper - modifying a theme to liking etc. So abandoned at v4.7 even after trialing v5.
But technially Cockos team is second to none - probably lightest on resources of all daws. If not having to run VLC player to do video, where it really felt heavy and delays starting/stopping transport etc. StudioOne before and now Cakewalk I don't even notice I run video as well.

There still hasn’t been a version 6.20 and you’re already complaining about it not moving as fast as version 5? A bit too early, don’t you think?lfm wrote: Wed Aug 19, 2020 7:28 am It's like Frankel lost the spirit or something - nothing much was introduced to v6.x.

Anyway, they’re working on a big update now with cool new features.

I used REAPER from around 2007/2008 until September 2015, all I can say is leaving it behind was the best thing I ever done, I'll never even think of going back, it sucks more than a Hoover on steroids.

TWM? It’s pretty much the ugliest window manager I’ve ever used, although calling it a window manager might even be a bit of a stretchpekbro wrote: Wed Aug 19, 2020 2:20 amHa! I like it, anyway Reaper is just on of the DAW's I use, as I have most of them.jinotsuh wrote: Wed Aug 19, 2020 2:14 am
I didn't think REAPER could get any uglier than the default, man was I wrong. That there is retina melting, it should come with a hazard warning![]()
*it reminds me of something, tho I can't remember what, some old linux window
manager theme I used back in the day I think.

The stock "Windows 95-looking" REAPER effects could get some modern graphic overhaul, for example like these...
