I overpaid for my u-he plugins...

So the U-He website shows British pounds or something for the prices for me, despite me being in the United States. I've read about how they don't really have discounts or sales (from their own website) so I didn't look around for different prices or deals, just bought directly from the website a month or two back at the price listed on the website (after Paypal converting to USD during the transaction).

Now I was considering buying Presswerk kept seeing the price listed in USD in forum posts. Then I looked around and I see the U-He plugins selling on 3rd party websites in USD. Meaning after conversion I WAY overpaid for the previous plugins I bought by about $80 compared to buying from a third party that charges USD prices. This really sucks and I feel like I was mislead by U-He's own website.

Am I missing something?

We can not dictate prices of resellers, that's against EU laws. They can take their margin and use it to undercut us, that's how a free market works. There's nothing uncommon about it.

Our website btw. shows pricing in Euro, but you can set it to pretty much any currency in the final shop storefront. Latter would have automatically set itself to USD when you checkout, if that's where you're located.

I don't get why u-he need resellers anyway? Everybody can visit their site and buy the product. Are u-he forced to have ressellers? I understand the pain of the OP of course that's really frustrating.

Sales through resellers account for a large portion of our revenue. Apparently, many people prefer to buy from resellers rather than from us directly. These sales simply fund several of our employees.

Also, some resellers offer additional services, e.g. language support in the Japanese market. Or they advertise and make tutorial videos.

Of course it's frustrating that resellers commonly seem to sell cheaper than ourselves - baffles us, too. Particularly when the Euro gets stronger such as in the past few weeks. But it has often been the other way round, where people from overseas had the better deal.

Well that sucks that I wasted 80 dollars. Won't be buying from your website anymore, if I buy anything from you again in the future.

I guess it cost me 80 dollars to learn that I will never again trust a companies website or marketing materials at face value and should always do more research and "read between the lines". So thank you for that lesson.

Urs can't help it; he's a big dickhead.

Did you see anything different than what I am seeing on the site currently?

It is a bit unfair to dump that onto U-he. Part of the problem is that you apparently used Paypal to do the currency conversion. They charge an arm and a leg for that.

U-he never has sales but 3rd party retailers tend to have loyalty schemes that can make things cheaper.

Hmmm, what do you suggest we could have done better?

@briefcasemanx: Now try again, while not being a collossal asshole in your reply.

Amazing how people don't understand free market economics.

Evil dragon: Try what again? What are you even talking about? How about you "try" not name calling.

Urs: Just reading the FAQ on the website makes it seem as if the price on the website is pretty much non-negotiable and that whatever the price listed is the only price you can buy the plugin for. Of course you could include a blurb about how third party companies may have different pricing than your website price. I completely understand why you don't, because you'd make less money if more people were funneled towards purchasing from 3rd parties. But by the same token you should understand why a customer would be upset that they parted with more money than necessary. The goal of us both is to try and keep the most money we can from the transaction. I lost this time because of assumptions I made about the level of assymetry of the information presented in the FAQ. Assumptions that I will not repeat, but a good lesson.

Feel free to point out where I showed a lack of understanding of free market economics.

You should start your crusade with your reseller, not U-He.
