How do I make Reaper automatically "mute" all tracks except for the one whose plugin is in the foreground? Currently all tracks play when I hit a key, so I have to manually shut up the other tracks so that they don't react to my keyboard.
https://forum.cockos.com/archive/index. ... 95721.html

And I don't even have a copy of Reaper, i just googled "reaper solo track" and that came up.
Thanks, but that doesn't seem to do what I need.
I want Reaper to work like Mulab, i.e. only the currently selected track receives data from my Midi keyboard, the others only play back if I had already recorded something on them before. But they don't receive Midi data from my keyboard. In Reaper when I solo the track, the others are silent while still receiving Midi data from my keyboard, one can see that from the track meters. That's not the same thing.
Basically, I need the record arm thingy to be automatically limited to the currently selected track.

it sounds like you want automatic record arm? there's a setting in, erm, settings.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

Track Menu / Set all tracks to automatic record-arm when selected.

It adds an "A" to the track record button, I guess to remind you that this is active.

But that doesn't seem to be a global setting applied whenever I open Reaper.

Very true...

Try:
Open Reaper with a fresh empty project, change the Track auto-record-arm setting.
Open Project Settings (alt-enter, from memory)
Save as default project settings.

Happy ending?

Nope, doesn't seem to work. When I relaunch Reaper, it is wrong again.

Found it, with someone else's help.
Options -> Preferences -> Project -> Track/Send Defaults
There one has to click in the field Record Config (regardless of what it says there) and check the last entry on the pop-up list.

Why would anyone look for a global setting in there?!

You're new to Reaper, right? :hihi:
