Wow, I don't get the thumbs down on my comments.
I'm really giving my unbiased opinions.
Yeah, I'm gonna miss a lot of stuff from BWS: Multiband-FX2, Mid-Side Split, the info panel, being able to edit automation values by typing, the GUI, the way the browser works, the mixer and device views there, "record into next free slot" for multiple takes, sandboxing of plugins, bounce to new track, and I guess these are the ones I'll miss the most.
What (are my issues)/(I miss most) on BWS: export to MP3, numbering of tracks(counting), plugins take a little longer to open, some VST GUI act a little weird such as SERUM, little iffy bugs(there are some SUCKY bugs one live, but to me it's like the pitch bug and maybe some other one and that's it), selecting time doesn't give you the amount of selected bars, or the selected time in min:sec; it only gives you the first/last bar, and time in seconds, which to me are useless, some VST had some weird bugs that never happened on any other DAW I own, the 12 month updates model which I think could be a little cheaper; I guess this is mostly it.
I love them both, but Live has more things that help my workflow. If BWS would add these features I would heavily consider sticking with BWS, even with the 12 month update model I'm not fond of.
I know I posted a lot already, and got some thumbs down, because some people thought maybe I was trolling or that I was some Live fanboy. Really not the case. I'll stick with whichever suits my workflow best.
Cheers guys.

It's almost inevitable to miss something from a Daw or another.
Since we change and evolve as musicians, no matter what Daw we use, in many cases it's not going to keep up with you. You will need to dance with it and make sure you don't step on each other's feet (which it's happening ATM with BWS) and perhaps find a better partner if that happens too much.
I try not to "miss" much but focus on the upside of my tools and judge only by the "results", hence... back to Ableton.
I think it's nuts to fall into the trap of following in love with a tool forgetting the real goal: your Music

Pretty much all the DAW's are ahead of me. Most of them have more functionality than I need. Hell, I could get by in Garageband if I needed to. Ableton Live is the odd one out for me as it is the only major DAW that doesn't support MPE... but even then, if I had to, I could manage it.Biscotto wrote: Sun Aug 30, 2020 3:05 pm It's almost inevitable to miss something from a Daw or another.

There is not much I miss at this point from Live... midi step input is it. Overall, I like Logic and Bitwig better than Live, but for me, these conclusions are always within the context that I could happily use any DAW and accomplish what I want. They are all amazingly capable compared to not so long ago.

Of course pdxindy...your opinion and mine are, at the end of the day, worth a little in this big universe of electronic music.pdxindy wrote: Sun Aug 30, 2020 3:27 pmPretty much all the DAW's are ahead of me. You're very well spoken, and always have a great way of transmitting your idea.
I do indeed think I make more music in Live. I'm testing that right now.
Yet I've become a little slow in it since dedicating a lot of time to learning BWS as much as I could.
Anyways, thanks for the input and reminder: "I think it's nuts to fall into the trap of following in love with a tool forgetting the real goal: your Music". Rings very true to me.
Cheers.

I don't like the excel like look of Ableton/Bitwig but its rack-based workflow can be recreated in Logic with Freestyle(as instrument rack) and Reaktor (as the macro and modulator parts) so I'm happy too

and the score view quite usable in Logic it's also missing from BWS

I love how Bitwig is designed, but to me, it never sparked my creativity. The built-in effects, midi effects, and instruments are generally very uninspiring and soulless. The concept of the Grid was a dream come true, but the results I got out of it were usually disappointing. It gives you tons of flexibility, but it lacks core creative tools like Logic's smart tempo and autosampler or Live's capture feature and audio to midi.
My main reason for switching to Logic was simply the awesome iPad Remote support. Bitwig always prioritized Windows Surface. The general lack of controller support for Bitwig is pretty disappointing actually.

I still have Bitwig, but have been with an expired plan since the Grid was introduced. Don't expect pay for some time tbh, though I probably will pay again sooner or later. Probably, honestly I don't really care about Bitwig, come blackfriday sale time, I plan to upgrade Reason instead.

TBH I would be surprised if Bitwig survives another 5 yrs, their "non-sub" payment plan is not
a solid foundation to run a business on. Revenue in that model is too variable and uncertain.

Of course before I decided MPE was important to me I was using Live and Digital Performer, both of which don't do MPE natively.Echoes in the Attic wrote: Sat Aug 29, 2020 1:55 pmAren't we already there? It's harder to name DAWs that don't do MPE at this point. Most of the biggies have it anyways: Logic, Reaper, Cubase, Studio One, Bitwig, Waveform.Biscotto wrote: Fri Aug 28, 2020 8:47 pm I also understand your need for MPE, for which I have no use of, but eventually most of the DAWs will get there at the right time when a more universal demand will be impossible to ignore.
Anyway, that's why I bought Bitwig in the first place, then Logic got Clips, so now I'm torn between literally AU or VST only DAWs.

It was my first DAW haha.
But I don't really use macOS anymore. After 10.6.8 things started going in a direction I didn't really like. Also, they're probably going full ARM now.
I don't really like MS, but meh, been with Windows since 2012. Haven't had issues, so sticking with it.
I don't really use max4live, or the grid tbh. haha.

I considered ditching Bitwig at one point maybe a year and half ago as I got fed up with some midi issues, but when I wen to ableton again I couldn't do it. There's too much I'm used to in Bitwig. Thankfully they improved the issues that bugged me. Currently aside from a bug or two that are completely reproducible, and some touch screen issues that drive me crazy, there's not much that would make even look at another DAW. Can't say I'm a big fan of the built-in synths though. I like the sampler and Organ, but I'm not a fan of the sound of the synths all that much. But that's what VSTs are for.
As cool as the grid is I'm looking forward to when they shift focus to the core program, midi editing etc. There are improvements to make there for sure.

I'm fairly new to all this, but I'm interested in this comment.pdxindy wrote: Fri Aug 28, 2020 6:31 pm I just wouldn't want to be without Bitwig's modulation system. Especially for Bitwig instruments, Live doesn't come close to the capability of Bitwig's modulation capabilities. I use Bitwig's instruments much more than I ever used Live included instruments because of the modulation.
In what ways is the modulation system better... sounds like a lot better in fact!
I'm with Cubase at the moment but am looking at either bitwig or Live as my next DAW...so your comment on modulation is very intriguing! Could you expand a little please?
Many thanks!
