Oh help. How on earth do I find and use the MUX VST DLL (or whatever) files that I bought

I'm really trying to keep myself from losing the will to live, while I try to make sense of MUTools or MULab or KVRAudio or whatever place provides "support" for buyers and users of this software.
I did buy the MU**** programme some time ago and shortly afterwards bought the MUX, thinking it would also provide me with guitar effects when I needed them.
I'm sorry, but I have other things in my life and I got dragged away from audio recording and I've just recently found time to try again.
For information, I got the Universal Audio "Arrow" digital interface to feed into the MU****(whatever) DAW (I think). From UA, I also bought a couple of effects and an amp simulation. I've used them and I'm feeling that I probably need a bit more processing power and might go for a newer Apollo interface.
But, I cannot work out how to use the effects I bought from MU**(whatever**). I've tried going through the Add VST route and other trials, but I just keep running into dead ends.
Please, please, is there somebody who can tell me:
Where to find the software I bought (giving guitar effects)?
How to get them to work in a recording?
From what I've seen in a couple of forums, this is probably extremely simple-minded and basic, but I can't find a readable English text that explains it to me.
Thanks in advance,
LenRR

When you're using MuLab you don't need to use the MUX Modular VST plugin as MUX Modular is an integral part of MuLab.
All MUX presets are available from an empty rack slot, or from the browser at the right, or from within any MUX editor.
There also are distortion presets, chorus, delay, EQ, etc so you can indeed use MUX Modular as a guitar effect too.

Hello
Thanks for your quick response.
I've attached a screen shot from when I click an empty slot in MuLabs / Tools. If I look under MuTools/Devices/Effects, there are two effects MUEcho & MUVerb. If I click on either of these, they appear in the slot, but have no effect on the sound.
Underneath VST/Effects, there are a number of UAD plugins, which I've imported. They also will appear in the empty slot, but have no effect on the sound.
If I place the UAD effects in the UA Console, they work fine and will record, with the effects working, in MuTools.
I thought I'd bought a whole lot more guitar effects when I paid for the MUX licence, but in any case they don't seem to work.
If I try to browse for VST plugins, under the VST folder, I get a number of problems, often freezing my PC system.
It looks like I just have to forget about MuTools plugins and rely on UA ones. They tend to be more expensive, but they do seem to work.
Regards,
Len

In order to get more familiar with MuLab & MUX Modular, please have a look at the tutorial videos:

You've not mentioned "Factory Presets" (which is what you're after) or "Modules". If you're going to get the most benefit, you do need to run through either the online manual or the introductory videos.

But they dont seem to work, in MuLab, for you, you've just said that.LenRR wrote: Tue Sep 01, 2020 6:16 pm If I click on either of these, they appear in the slot, but have no effect on the sound.

If everything you do in MuLab has no effect on the sound, and something you do outside of that (UA Console) has an effect on the sound, then it sounds like you've not got MuLab configured in such a manner that anything can affect the sound in the first place.
In other words, its not the plugins, its your setup.
UA Console is working because what its doing is happening entirely internally to your UA audio interface.
MuLab, though, doesnt run on the UA interface, it runs on the computer, so isnt working because its either not getting audio from the UA audio interface, or its not sending back to the UA audio interface, or not passing that audio through the channel with the plugin on it, or all of the above.
(And in case you werent sure, when you use a UA VST plugin inside MuLab, the audio is still getting processed on the UA device so gets sent from the computer back through the UA device in the middle of the chain as well. So the chain goes UA ->MuLab->UA->MuLab->UA, instead of UA->MuLab->UA for a VST normal plugin)

Get your shit together. It's not the plugins fault, neither Mulab's. If you can't do basic configuration, that's your fault because you're a noob. The Help file and video tutorials are there to help you.LenRR wrote: Tue Sep 01, 2020 6:16 pm It looks like I just have to forget about MuTools plugins and rely on UA ones.
At least you should know what plugins you have bought and if you have them installed or not. And the name of the program you're trying to use them in. Coming here and demonstrating that you don't know/don't care/can't be arsed because it's so damn difficult is... let's say it's just lazy.

Perhaps not the best way to phrase this. While many of us here on KVR are quite technically involved or at least literate with digital audio, not everyone who has interest in digital audio products understands their ins and outs, especially with computers. At least hardware synths, samplers, and effects, even when digital, have a simple interface of audio in and audio out. When it comes to computers, it is often times not that simple. So perhaps let's be a little more kind to those who express interest in this field, yes?schpaeckulum wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2020 12:23 pm Get your shit together. With that said LenRR, we do expect that if you take up interest in digital audio software on a computer, that you would put forth the effort to learn at least the basics of interfacing with audio drivers and digital signal chains/processing. RTFM is not a graceful term, but in this case it is the biggest issue you're running into. As an audio professional myself, if I'm handed a new technology or tool chain by my employers or clients, I take the time to learn at least enough to get started before I go about accusing anyone of difficulty with their technology.

Dakkra
