I think you need to wait for GR6 to get released and demo it. You can't really judge by the screen shots.
screenshots have nothing to do with it. it's that I don't appreciate when companies rehash their old stuff under seemingly new moniker and charge their customers double for what they already paid for. how many people here already have the compressors, solid mix, reverb classics, mod pack, crush, etc, etc? you don't need the demo to see what's going on here.

besides, the code for old stomps and FX transferred from GR5 and older must be the same. it's not like they went back in time and re-measured and re-modeled all this hardware they had ready for GR5. that would be a massive work and brainstorm if they did, but they made a safe choice. it's the same stuff, even the names are same.

so they make you pay twice for what you already had for years, only now it looks "cooler", "more hip". but the thing is, even GUI is not really catching up with 2020. I've seen people like Requietus who did a better job at skins given way for free and this was a few years back. It's not like it matters a hell lot, but even in this regard GR6 falls behind to what competition is making today.

And last but not least, sys reqs state that Guitar Rig 6 is Win 10 only. Full stop right there. Presonus already lost my money when they made that switch with S1, now NI joins the club.

Hard pass.
windows 7 is legacy discontinued product. you would be a fool to keep using windows 8. i dont like windows 10, but it is what is it. the only chose for windows based OS systems. unless you want to get a copy of windows 2012 server.

I'm still using Win 7. Will demo, but atm i'm quite optimistic it'll run flawlessly on my system, as most stuff does that's not explicitly labled as “Win 7 compatible“.
Unless it's going to use the AVX code (or whatever it was called again) that's also required for Massive X

What isn't too clear is whether the old amps have been updated, using the new technique. It reads as though they aren't. Same for the modeled stomp boxes - but it would be really nice to have a good RAT model in there. I love what NI did with CAT at the time but it wasn't really a RAT.

It would be odd to have old DSP nestled among new DSP. I'd rather have a GR6 with just three amps as a start if the old ones aren't to be updated. Same goes for the stomp boxes and other effect processors. So it would be nice to be able to hide legacy features, if this is the case. I'm quite happy to scrap all the old stuff and move forward with new tech.

I would really like to see some quirky bits of kit added - especially a crappy little solid state practice amp. More solid state amps in general. Orange everything. And, indeed, a good sounding oil-can delay would be a fantastic addition.

Aside from all that, what really interests me at present are cabs. I hope there will be some new tech there and we're not just getting single, static IRs. Though even if so, I see they are using some companies with a good reputation to create IRs - so I hope there will be plenty of options.

If NI has a machine learning system then might we end up with fully modeled cabs in the near future? And will there be a slashed-speaker model?

theyre asking for input on the gr6 page :)

You read correctly.

Not really. If you'll remember, even in GR5 there's a "Show legacy components" option, which basically just hides the old Mics & Cabinets component.

The idea here is that more ICM tech amps/stomps will be added with time, and if it happens to be the same amp/stomp as the old one, the old one goes to Legacy section and new one is used by default.

Yeah, Ownhammer and 3Sigma Audio. They're basically the A and B options in Matched Cabinet Pro. You don't get the bajillion IRs list. For this you can still use Reflektor.

EvilDragon wrote: Tue Sep 01, 2020 5:12 pm It doesn't matter. What goes in GR6 doesn't care about other NI FX you might own. And I don't recall GR ever had a paid-for minor update, so any new content coming into it will be for free.
So it could include the Vintage Compressors and RC reverbs even though the standalone plugins aren't part of Komplete?

That's kinda funny given that some of these effects used to be separate purchases that would only run in Guitar Rig.

Not could, DOES. Yeah it is a bit funny, kinda went full circle. :D

uhh, so where the heck are the samples? Weird to do an annoucnemnt and new page, talking about "revolutionary" algorithm without new samples.

I'm guessing there is a thread on their forum. I'll have to drop by with a list a little later.

Ah. That's a shame. I'll be interested to hear the new offerings though.

Missed the rest of your reply when I originally quoted. Thank you for your extended reply. :)

Eh? It's, um, an effect.

EDIT - OH you mean demos, not samples. Where are the demos? I guess they're coming by launch (?)

Ooh, Bass Invader looks like a Gallien-Krueger 400RB amp circuit model! One of my favorite bass amps ever (I still have the one I got for Christmas in 1987) and IMO, has not yet been properly modeled.

However the linked product page has two "Lo Cuts", one of those needs to be a "Hi Boost" button.
@EvilDragon...any chance you can pass that along to NI?

Post

It's already fixed. :)

It's nice that it's getting a well overdue update, but it all seems kind of superficial. Yes, they've added a couple of new models, but I kind of felt all the existing models were falling behind the competition sound-wise. They may have been acceptable a few years back, but aren't really that good now, and my impression is that they're still the same old models with a new GUI.
I used to use Guitar Rig... but gave up on it, and now I'm a happy Amplitube user.
