"Soft controller assignment" mapping for instrument layer macros.

Hello everyone! Just want to know: If i start learning javascript and the API protocol, should be able to map 8 knobs to the 4x2 macros of the Instrument Layer device, but in a "soft controller assignment" way (as its called in the users guide). I have troubles to explain myself but its basically mapping 8 knobs/faders relative to the 4x2 rows of parameters that keeps changing each time you change layers. What im trying to avoid is to stick my mapped knob to the parameter of one layer.
Gear: Launchkey61mk2, SL49mk2.

i think... you need the cursor to point at the devices beneath the first device. (not sure how to achieve that tho, i’ve only pointed the cursor device to the first one... )

ok and then after that you need a function to move the cursor device between those sub devices.
