Let's discuss the DAW market right now (Logic, Studio One, FL Studio etc)

Still on Studio One. Won't change anywhere soon either. Don't think I'll ever update to version 5. If any other DAW, then the only one which really would come into question would be Cubase, and that only if they drop eLicenser (and don't introduce some other dongle protection...).
That's my "take on the DAW market". I don't really care about it.
I wish all the involved companies the best of luck though. It's a tough market, and I'm always a bit sceptical about QA. IMO, there's a big risk that companies just want to sell new features, and that product stability falls short. It's already happening, and it could become more severe. I wished that the market would be less hectic these days, and that people wouldn't wave with their wallets so much.

Eek, Bitwig's popup browser is an intrusive mess and is one of the reasons I sold v1! I've since gotten a 3.x license, I use Bitwig in spite of it. Horses for courses... Beyond that I love Bitwig's integrated modulation.andypryce wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2020 5:52 pm+1Greenstorm33 wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2020 5:45 pm Will be interesting to see if anyone equals or beats Bitwig's browser. That's a huge part of the reason I use it. Tracktion is close but seems to perpetually be a buggy mess (the whole DAW, not the browser specifically) and there are a bunch of little workflow things that add up to me not liking it nearly as much as Bitwig.

My first DAW was Notator SL on the Atari Mega ST4. The next one was Fruity Loops 3 on Windows. Over the years I also tested Sonar, Cubase and different versions of Ableton, but now I'm only using FL Studio 20, because it's the only DAW which has all features I need to produce my music. And the worst from all of them was and is Ableton, they just have a big marketing and much fanboys ...
EDIT:
And the reason, why Roland, Korg and Yamaha don't have their own DAW is, that they're still living in the past. Just look to the sequencers in their current workstations, they're still 20 years in the past! But you should know that meanwhile Roland has bought Cakewalk (Sonar) and Yamaha Steinberg (Cubase) and Korg is ... just Korg!
EDIT:
And Bitwig. Before they released their first version, I fought for them in a german forum many years ago, because they promised very much things and many other users, especially Ableton fanboys, laughed about them. But they didn't deliver, what they promised at that time, so I didn't buy it.

Ableton changed the game when they came in. I agree they haven't been up to much lately, but to deny the impact would be a mistake.clipnotic wrote: Sun Sep 06, 2020 1:01 am My first DAW was Notator SL on the Atari Mega ST4. Yeah ableton is like 1st gen imac. Computer doesn't have to be difficult to be usable. Simplify the peripheral and UI. That is what mass consumer market is buying. People are not interested in connecting things or dealing with the list of setting.

The DAW market is saturated, which is good for everyone. Keeps prices fair, and forces inovation. I don't see any real surprises. I do have hopes that Bitwig and Studio One get better.wuworld wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2020 4:40 pm Alright guys what's your take on the DAW market right now? Any surprises for you as for success? Have you switched DAW's?
Only real surprise I have is that Cubase still requires a physical dongle, I don't think that can go on much longer. Too many other DAW's have to be eating their market share, but as we've seen in other businesses some companies are just not able/willing to adapt as times change and will eventually be eliminated from competition.
NI probably, they basically already seem to have some kind of DAW for maschine don't they? Not far off if they put some muscle behind it.What companies do you see doing a DAW in the future?
Are you kidding me? Software costs a lot to develop (I'm in the business) and it is hard to find good talent. The DAW market is very competitive, which means poor margins. The most likely reason to join is because you have the products to push as integrations to cross sell, but you can never make things too exclusive due to competition. My one question is why don't Roland, Korg, and Yamaha have a DAW.

Bitwigs browser sucks, it doesn't have thumbnail images as a fast visual reference to plugins.andypryce wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2020 5:52 pm+1Greenstorm33 wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2020 5:45 pm Will be interesting to see if anyone equals or beats Bitwig's browser. That's a huge part of the reason I use it.

Never had an issue with it. The plugins I use regularly I know the names of. Studio One allows you to take a screen shot of a plugin and use it to associate it, but I never use it because who cares? To each their own though.THE INTRANCER wrote: Sun Sep 06, 2020 6:01 amBitwigs browser sucks, it doesn't have thumbnail images as a fast visual reference to plugins.andypryce wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2020 5:52 pm+1Greenstorm33 wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2020 5:45 pm Will be interesting to see if anyone equals or beats Bitwig's browser. What I like about it is, I can audition everything in place, in context without committing. Samples, Devices,Presets.THE INTRANCER wrote: Sun Sep 06, 2020 6:01 amBitwigs browser sucks, it doesn't have thumbnail images as a fast visual reference to plugins.andypryce wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2020 5:52 pm+1Greenstorm33 wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2020 5:45 pm Will be interesting to see if anyone equals or beats Bitwig's browser. I can try different samples, delay plugins, compressors or synths etc in place real time, adjust the parameters, change the presets without loading unloading each one of them every time.
I might be using Serum and I can try Spire instead on the same channel and do all kind of adjustments audition presets etc and if I do not like I can go back to Serum with esc key instantly.

Not to mention Reason handles this feature so much better than S1 - the thumbnails have uniform width and don't get cropped when they're capured on a high-DPI screen.

Do they...?? What makes them technically superior??antic604 wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2020 10:00 pm ...
Also, I imagine Steinberg or Apple execs not being happy seeing Live or FL taking the crown of "Top DAW" year after year, when they know they have - technically - superior products.

I believe superiority depends on the user needs. If you need ARA, scoring, comping, mpe, expression maps etc Logic and Cubase are superior but they are also crippled in a lot of other areas compared to Live,FL and Bitwig.Trancit wrote: Sun Sep 06, 2020 9:43 amDo they...??
