So, anyone still using Novation V-Station?

i would say MANY soft synths, namely virtual analog, have the CAPABILITY to sound very similar.
but not identical

Well... then there isn't much to discuss, I guess.hoanglongdummy wrote: Sun Sep 06, 2020 11:25 am To answer your question: Do you think that all soft synths sound the same? Yes
It's not all unscientific either. If you want to try, get a frequency spectrometer like SPAN, and see how some synths cut the top end, or attenuate it like a low cut filter. Or check how some filter designs lower the volume, or some filters have a lot more resonance than others. Or how the resonance differs from filter to filer, some are rather whistling, while some have that loud peak analog filters have. Etc.
And, if you really think they all sound the same, then, all the better for you. You can just buy a richly featured synth, just use that one, and live happily ever after.

Yeah, no arguing that. As has been mentioned, just like guitars, they all have 6 strings (mostly), and alayzer wrote: Sun Sep 06, 2020 11:36 am i would say MANY soft synths, namely virtual analog, have the CAPABILITY to sound very similar.

billy corgan can hear the difference between the different coloured guitars, when otherwise they are the same guitarizonin wrote: Sun Sep 06, 2020 11:34 am Also... All electric guitars sound the same. It's just 6 strings! (OK some got 7)
The only difference is the number of tone controls, and the color.

that were next to each other on the assembly line
with the only difference being the wood grain on the front panels.

With synths like V-Station and Sylenth1 is heresy to say they are the same like others - first you hear and feel is distinguish character and sound.
If they was the same why people still buy them...at least Sylenth1
I'm not programmer, can't say on program level which coding is same OR different, but the sound and temper of these two is definitely unique.
In another topic i was trying to discuss filters, but don't have program knowledge to express technical opinion,as designer could say for sure it's magic what some developers do with their zero-one bits.
Cheers

Take a sawtooth wave for example. The different "colors" can be explained by the different bandlimiting algos that the various synths use.
It's a bit like taking an analog saw, and recording it with different audio interfaces. Each recording will sound slightly different, because of the anti-aliasing filters and other variables.

Man don't need tons of info about programing to hear it(if listen carefully) ,what some guys say about similarity is more about similar presets probably,it is common misconception among users.
For example you create deep, fat bass with lp filter and main focus is 100-200 hz where this bass will work,no matter what alchemy you do for users your presets will sound the same if they are in 100-200 hz area using same lp filter or different designers making such presets may be suspect in some world conspiracy
It is not the same preset, just sonic space and usage are limited.
Could write a novel about all wrong opinion and definitions users have about presets ,i had too in the beginning of my sound designer 'career',now i would say magic is in details
:):)
As i like to say - ones somebody say you sister is a whore,go explain you don't have sister
Cheers
