I think I never had so many tracks in 4-ranking. Usually I found several tracks with less effort and result. But this time nearly every track has a high level and showing the huge versatility of Surge. Most of the 3 would be a 4 in other rounds/months.
What free Synth!

I just decided to put those "4"'s into the 3 bin because I needed to separate the "high" 4's and 5's!
In the end, it sort of comes out in the wash, however you decide to distribute the votes. But yes, many of my 3's would have been 4's in almost any other round.
It just feels bad pushing tracks down, but I have always tried to use as much of the scale as I can to finesse the rankings for me, of course, and across my "scoring regime" of composition (within genre as much as I can), sound design (and applicability to the track), mixing (balance, soundstage, instruments etc), mastering (LUFS/DR/EQ/Compression etc ...), and finally any subjective things that come to mind taking into account all the submissions (the hard part really!).
Hope this makes some sense of how I try to approach this after doing 75 consecutive OSC's! Phew, I must be getting old ...

I was messaging you to go full ham sometime again like you did with "NCOTH", but yea... health first.Guenon wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2020 2:37 pm Props to you all, so fine stuff in this round, and Surge is also a magnificent synth. Sorry I couldn't participate this time after all, even though I thought I'd get around to it.
The usual "busy stuff" got me, BUT also my ear malfunctioned big time, out of the blue. As in, "saw a specialist and got sent to an MRI scan, it was so f'd" type of malfunctioned.
It was thoroughly examined and I got meds for it, and it's already a lot better, so... a huge relief, the worst it got fortunately didn't represent a permanent state. Still, no mixing for me for a while, or at the very least gotta go easier on that stuff for the time being![]()

Voted. As some have noted, it's mostly 4s and 5s. My system tends to be pretty simple and I don't spend a lot of time ranking songs against each other. So I'm left in a dilemma this month; clog up the top rankings, or rank some folks a lot lower than their work deserves.
I'll try to split the difference, but for me, it really is difficult to differentiate this time out.
