I had a scare this morning. My decent (i7) computer apparently broken. I ordered another computer 2.0Ghz dual core 4gig RAM refurbished Dell (for £75!). Then this afternoon my decent computer apparently working like normal.
I found a couple of threads in Instruments section, about lightweight synths/instruments.
I couldn't find a thread in Effects section, about lightweight effects.
Any your suggestions gratefully appreciated!

Lightweight fx = shit TBH.
That said, the Klanghelm stuff is pretty low CPU to sound quality ration.
Otherwise, it's like with soft synths really. Good sound quality comes at a cost.

Your DAW stock ones, but I would rather suggest investing in PC upgrade or new machine, than spending money on lightweight plugins.
What are your PC specs, motherboard, processor?

That's quite overpriced, you can get i5 2500 machine with 8 gb of RAM for that money second hand...I ordered another computer 2.0Ghz dual core 4gig RAM refurbished Dell (for £75!).

My old pc which seemed to die this morning is i7 3.7Ghz quad core 8gig RAM. It's Dell refurb, i dunno what motherboard. My old pc usually handles anything i've thrown at it no problem. I don't have Diva but i didn't notice a problem many of the patches of the demo version of Diva.
The new pc which i ordered for a paltry £75 is primarily for using the internet (if my other computer is broken), although i thought i'll be able to have some music fun at least with Synth1!
I won't bother with a Dell refurb again. I would've been doing another thread "which music PC (new) do you recommend for £1000+ and which shop, or what spec and i'll build it myself".
This is the second Dell refurb i've had. The first cost £230 and had a similar spec to this which costing me £75 now, and lasted for 2 years until it died. I used it with Reason 10 no problem. The second cost £300 and i've had it not very much longer than a year.

That comes with a 17inch monitor, keyboard, mouse, and wifi adaptor. Ah well it's only £75 to bide the time until i can afford a better computer for music.Passing Bye wrote: ↑Thu Sep 24, 2020 1:43 pm

Edit: & 1 year warranty. £75/12=approx £6 per month.

it wasn't this morning, so then i ordered the cheap computer to bide the time, then my i7 started working again. But i'm still interested to know about lightweight plugs because i'll still use the cheap computer at a different location.

My last two builds have come from Scan. My partner still uses the first one as an office PC and my 2018 FWX299 is still going strong. My PC at the office needed replacing last year and I got that from Scan too. I'm hoping to replace my ancient MBP with the laptop below from PC Specialist next month, can let you know how that works out for me, if you like.

Zebra 2, Everything from smartelectronix, synth 1, all the GVST stuff, Kontakt (just for standard sample playback, not huge libraries with crazy scripting), an old copy of addictive drums 1, all the voxengo freebies, all the Melda freebies and so on. Basically stuff that has been around a while, but was very well coded to begin with. I’m sure there are lots of old licenses for earlier versions of stuff that you could pick up from folks who have stopped making music. I made tons of stuff with an older rig than that and it still sounds fine.
I just realized you needed fx only.
I would look at maxing out the ram if possible though.
Good luck,
JJ

Are you looking at any particular website for this i5?Passing Bye wrote: ↑Thu Sep 24, 2020 1:43 pm Your DAW stock ones, but I would rather suggest investing in PC upgrade or new machine, than spending money on lightweight plugins.

Just local listings, it's without peripherals and monitor, retired HP corporate machine most probably, one friend already got one, he put additional SSD in it (had peripherals and monitor from his last machine), working like an charm for ~2 years now.bharris22 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 24, 2020 3:56 pmAre you looking at any particular website for this i5?Passing Bye wrote: ↑Thu Sep 24, 2020 1:43 pm Your DAW stock ones, but I would rather suggest investing in PC upgrade or new machine, than spending money on lightweight plugins.
