Given that most screens are wider than they are high, shouldn't the MSF and MXXX Devices be in landscape layout too?

The horizontal size is defined, so that MSF by default approximates the ideal landscape layout. But if the device cannot fit... But note that the vertical size depends on horizontal, so you can just resize it (if possible) and perhaps it will fit.
