I first ignored this anyway thinking not for me since I'm a Cubase user and I don't plan on switching DAWs anytime soon. But then I had a second thought that Mixbus could perhaps be a useful DAW for a secondary computer, and/or maybe the plugins for Mixbus can be used in Cubase, and/or maybe Harrison gives Mixbus owners special discounts on VSTs (if they make them)?

What are your experiences and thoughts? Can it be smart to get Mixbus now even if not for primary DAW use?
I have it and haven't used it much. I bought it for final mastering because the Harrison Console emulation. That is mainly what it has been rec'd to me for. It seems mostly audio.

Mixbus is a pretty good Harrison Console emulation wrapped into an Ardour DAW, which is a bit like putting a racing engine into a station wagon. You would buy it for the racing engine and not for the fact that it looks and feels like a station wagon. There are people who use it as their primary DAW but most of them seem to be mixing/mastering engineers.

If you want a straight-up emulation of a great sounding mix console it is cool.

Personally, I found it a bit fiddly, hard to read and inflexible but otherwise great. I wanted to like it, but in the end, I sold it.
Same here. Reminds me too much of open source development that doesn't make it easy for the common person. The workflow in other DAWs is much easier.

:hihi: That's an excellent explanation! Thanks!

What about their VST plugins, are they good? If they are, do they give you discounts as a Mixbus owner, or that sort of thing?

Their plugins are good. Nothing earth shattering, but good. Just be aware that only the AVA range are in a format you can use outside of Mixbus. All other plugins use the LV2 plugin format. They might work in Reaper or Audacity (I have never tried that) but they certainly do not work in any other DAW.

Another little tidbit is that it looks like Harrison never deactivates coupon codes. If you find a coupon that should have expired years ago, it most likely still works.

I haven't tried Carla, but it seems to be able to run as a VST plugin and it understands LV2 format: https://kx.studio/Applications:Carla
Maybe it could run Mixbus plugins in other DAWs as well.

Carla supports VST's so it is a VST or it can host VST's.
In this case support means that is can host VST's.
So is it a stand-alone or a VST or both?
Gotta say it looks great!

Any opinions on the current Falcon sale ($244 for Falcon + 2 expansions)? Is this an unusual occurrence?
A well-behaved signature.

It’s happened before, but it’s also the best deal they offer maybe once or twice a year.

If someone has a surplus UVI voucher I'd be grateful to use it :tu:

Don't forget to add the 2 expansions when you order it.
+ when you purchase Falcon, you get a $100 voucher for any soundware or Falcon Expansion on uvi.net.

When I bought Falcon a few years ago with the same sale+2 expansions, I used the $100 voucher during a follow-up 50% off Falcon Expansion sale.

And a nice thing UVI did last year, maybe they do it every year, was they sent me a discount ‘loyalty voucher’ at the end of the year proportional to the amount I’d spent on UVI stuff that year. Which was a fair bit as I’d bought Falcon and Vintage Vault.

Just looked it up and it was a 80 euro/dollar voucher which enabled me to get the Vintage Vault 3 upgrade for 90 euro.
