when i have installed DCO-106, it updates itself.

i wonder, does the problem occurs, when you install via an installer or when it update itself.

uninstalling the old version, yes a good check. that uninstalling doesn't wipe out the vst2 plugins.

perhaps you are right. but it does do self-update DCO-106, you don't have to do it manually.

but that is a different thing perhaps, and perhaps the same thing happens.

anyway, be carefull.. it is nighttime in california.... so we must wait: for a response...
The update installed itself through the GUI, Then in the top right It had a message advising that the update would be applied when a new instance was opened. So I closed down the instance I had open and the installer instantly opened up. I followed the usual process and HEY PRESTO! No more VST's.

Just reviewing my options as this DCO-106 update kinda leaves a great BIG MESS i.e. software that thinks it is still installed but just the vst2 dll is missing! There is nothing in the recycle bin. I have a backup from a week ago but I have installed/updated quite a lot since then so I am trying other things. As it's a new build I have been installing a lot of software since August or so to get it back to where my old system was so this issue is very unwelcome :x !

In the meantime I am trying hard not to write anything to the drive as the free version of Recuva just found and recovered a lot of the missing items (not those in sub-folders).

this is a big mess up. i won't touch anything.... via the GUI and still wiping out a folder... it could we one line of code wrong, or part of it, but still, it must not happen.
there are strange installers, that installs, without having any option, vst2/vst3 plugins at wrong places, just move them. other strange things, but never big.

this is BIG!

again good luck!

(never thought of backing up vst2/vst3 folders, because in all my time no problems, but if this can happen... it can happen...)

recuva never heard of it, great that it maybe can work.

yes if you have just installed everything, and then it is gone.... i did take my time, when i went from win 7 from win10, with installing and tweaking everything. it is a lot of work.

so we must also make a back-up of the vst2/vst3 folders (i don't keep images of my boot drive, perhaps worth it. this never happens, almost... but if it happens...)..

again good luck with all that have this problem! it seems everybody, who fires up DCO-106!

(if someone does not experience it, mention it, but it seems that cherry audio, has made a big error, always be carefull, even if it is the most likely thing.)

Just used a still open - ticket to inform them about the issue. Got an auto - response & will post immediately when getting more info. Also pasted the forum - links, so they just might directly jump in here, too.

All,

Unfortunately, some code in the latest Windows installer designed to remove an old file malfunctioned massively for a couple of users, who had previously installed DCO-106 to a custom folder, and deleted other files in that custom folder. We were alerted to this at 4AM PST. We immediately pulled down the installer, removed the offending code, and published a new installer, ensuring this problem won't happen again for anyone else.

I can't apologize enough for this. We hold ourselves to a very high standard, we have a top-notch QA department, and we don't ever release any product that hasn't been thoroughly tested, but unfortunately this issue required a very specific, unique set of circumstances to occur, and we never caught it until it was too late. For those that have been affected by this, you have my sincere apologies, and we'll find a way to make it up to you. I'm grateful to hear that you can use Recuva, as described above, to recover the deleted files. This is humbling for us, and we will not let anything like this happen again, ever.

If you've been affected by this and haven't contacted our customer support, please do immediately, so we can help.

Thanks for the response Dan. Recuva rescued about half of my plugins but there were still lots missing so I am still restoring stuff but I'm getting there! I will contact Cherry support.

Thanks for the response, I have struggled to submit a ticket through the normal form.
I figured out that the chat icon on the bottom right of the screen does the same
thing so did it that way. Hopefully I will get a response soon.

Sigh. So, the support form is run by a third-party service that we use, and apparently they're having some issue with their support form. According to them, "This issue has been identified as a defect and it is currently being addressed by our Engineering team." What a day.

When it rains, it pours, right?

so the issue was only with non-standard vst directory? it didn't affect all users?
glad that the fix came as soon as possible. it can happen. still, i didn't experienced it, because i saw it before it could happen, if it could happen in my case, this o well, i think that the cherry audio team isn't happy that this has happened, so:

good luck!

(and it will never happen, although... but i have made backups of all my vst2/3 folders... just in case, i know from another developer it can be tricky, i didn't asked why, but now i understand... that a windows installer can be tricky... and some installers áre strange...).

And this is why I use two different drives per plugins - one for now, one for archives. With over 1000 plugins I do sometimes cause the streetlights to dim on the road outside when I run a backup, but it's definitely worth it. *

* This may all be lies.

Are you safe?

(i will now backup my plugins, 1000? perhaps... no a happy 500)

it seems to be fixed, as cherry dan wrote. if you fire up DCO-106 it automatically updates itself.

so it seems safe.
