I would not recommend this. Depending on the number of plugins you have, this may take a considerable time. Instead you may simply delete the Waves references in the vst.ini (which is a simple text-file), then rescan, which should in this case only take a moment or two...

Yes, this works very well. Also, Waves leaves behind the V11 plugins which means because a V12 license is backwards-compatible, Reaper picks up the V11 and V12 plugins (well, it did for me). There is a simple solution if you find you have duplicates, as recommended in this article:

https://www.waves.com/support/uninstall-waves-products
  • Navigate to the relevant plugin version folder:
    • Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Waves\Plug-Ins V12 (or V11/V10/V9, whichever version is installed on your device).
    • Mac: Macintosh HD > Applications > Waves > Plug-Ins V12 (or V11/V10/V9, whichever version is installed on your device).
  • Delete the plugin file/s you wish to remove (or move to a backup folder).
Simple as that... just physically delete the V11 plugins!

Remember to do a full scan/update your reaper-vstplugins64.ini file otherwise Reaper will try and load V11 plugins and get itself all confused.

Unfortunately no update in V12 to their horrible licencing scheme.
Well, it's Halloween soon, so that's perfect. All that remains scary as Hell.

I had to reset again all my Wave licences a few weeks ago because something messed up the parameters of my network interfaces (Win 10 update? Other?). This adds to the fact that the spring Win 10 update was a disaster for some (that was fixed with the Fall update, but yeah there were months in-between).

Is putting all the licences on a USB stick working for you guys? I am considering this.
Can V9 be put on USB stick as well? It annoys me to pay even a dime to Waves, and that includes WUP.

I ask because the Spring Win 10 update got bugs related to USB handling, and one of
my backup drives was not operating fine until the Fall update. So all that is a bit scary.
I even bought a small NAS because of that (and that installation may have impacted
the network interface, hence the Wave licences - feels like living a Simpson episode).

I am not glad that the guys who chose the hacked versions and an update-free hacked Win 10
have a (much) higher productivity than me... if they're lucky not to get a virus or else.

Yes, I've been using this option for years now. Not a single problem.

Yes, the USB can hold all your Waves licenses, from V9 to V12.

Thanks Sahul. So if I choose a reliable USB key (I usually pick Toshiba) and if I
do not install those big seasonal updates (Spring, Fall) for Windows 10, I should be fine then
(I'm considering upgrading to Windows 10 Pro to have more power to block those updates).

I still have a bit of a silly question: is the USB key with the Waves licences still working when using a USB hub please? (I guess yes, but who knows)

Waves V12 is here, now with fuzzy GUIs
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

Mine works via an active powered USB hub. Also attached are iLok and eLicenser. I'm on Mac but perhaps this doesn't matter.

USB hub works here on Win 10, Ilok too.

This all seems a bit hyper-critical, I did the update and I'm very pleased with being able to bang them up a couple of sizes. Yes there is a slight loss of definition but you're hardly throwing yourself to the floor clutching at your eyeballs. Use the plugin for 10 minutes and you stop noticing it.

How on earth did people get anything done 15 years ago when all resolutions were crappy?

Post

Has anyone managed to run this on Windows 7?
Cubase doesn't see the waveshell and if I try it in a blue cat host it says "this is not a valid vst plugin"

You don't care about your eyes - cool.
But it doesn't mean that nobody should care and just be happy from any crap that companies are willing to sell us.
15 years ago we didn't had much choice but now we have. We have better displays which are not causing eye strain. Some pay extra money to use displays which are not harming eye sight much. Every software we use is crispy sharp and then... we have blurry that cause eye strain on the same screen.
Enjoy your eye strain and headaches ;)
