UA Lion is my favorite synth by far, plus it has a killer randomize function you can adjust percentage wise which is insanely useful. I'm a huge fan of Triad/Byome and UA in general anyway for a whole slew of reasons, and Lion took over as my most used synth.

There's only one other tech I use constantly which blows everything else out there for 'randomizing' out of the water due to the endless diversity of uncommon sound it produces, however it cannot be named because I haz special sofwarez (hint hint).

Another decent one is Nostromo (Reason RE) but it has a very defined sound.

I'll take a randomize function any day over presets, at least after you hear a few examples so you know what to expect. So easy to get 'close' to the sound you're after then go on short random journeys based off the one you got close with, then discovering a variation you didn't expect that works better than tweaking forever.
Have you tried Vital?

Tone2's new one will have a randomizer function .
Don't trust those with words of weakness, they are the most aggressive

I never found that the randomize function created many good sounds.
Sometimes good for abstract stuff though.

Markus, is there anyway to have influence on the randomizer function in Icarus ? I did not found anything in the manual so far.

As already noted UA Lion has really good randomize options. Also FXpansion's Cypher2 and Strobe 2 have really cool mutate/randomize options as well. The Newfangled Audio Generate also has a randomize button and I believe the last update made it even more random.
I can get some interesting Pads when using most of the above instrument' s random with some minor tweaking and adding Valhalla Shimmer.

Same here, I already have the sounds I want to make in my head before, so I construct them in a deliberate way.
What is the point of clicking some random button a zillion times until something more or less reasonable comes up?

Quite the opposite for me, though I have a very specific method -- I dial in/create the approximate sound I'm looking for, save it, then randomize. If I have a very close sound already, I use surgical randomizing (small adjustments and/or specific areas chosen to randomize), if I'm way off I'm usually just toying with an idea and its enjoying anyway. I often end up with several sounds I want to use in very little time. Locking the ADSR is a must imo.

Well, if you can specify and limit the degree of random, that's more constructive, of course. But when you simply have a global random button, no thanks.

Msoundfactory can randomise much modules and global presets too.
