Tracktion's Waveform also allows octave-name selection (in Settings >> MIDI Devices). I think that NI's Kontakt does not allow the names to be changed, but there the standard name is also A3.

Just wondering: is this an audio / MIDI thing? Audio guys, familiar with playing pianos, guitars or other instruments, will be accustomed to A4 as the standard. MIDI people (like me), using synths (HW or SW) etc are used to A3.

In v13.06, the names are standardized throughout the plug-ins (if you see a difference, please report it to MeldaProduction).

No it doesn't allow it. Samplitude as well. A3 is the standard.

From my research, it's actually a Yamaha thing.

The initiator of MIDI, Ikutaro Kakehashi, was the founder of Roland and they use C4. Yamaha was involved later. Something about the 'lowest addressable note'.

Logic Pro X, Sonar, REAPER, FL Studio, and others allow you to choose. The assignment is completely arbitrary yet has real implications for confusion. The only 'real' standards that I can find are that ~262Hz is MIDI 60 and A above Middle C is 440Hz.

People have been disagreeing over this kind of thing since at least J.S. Bach's time - probably longer.

Thanks for your sensitivity. I just fight tooth and nail over this because I hate the confusion this issue has been causing since I first realized there were at least two standards.

In fact, some people don't even know that ~262Hz is called anything other than C4. I've even seen one source claiming that middle C is C0! There are even more examples I can give where people say that Yamaha use C4 as middle C when, in actuality, at least one of their manuals specifies C3. In other words, there is a lot of misinformation about this topic.

In no way do intend to attack any person - just thoughts and actions - and then, besides putting forth my ideas, preferences, and beliefs, only to elicit challenges which may poke holes in my reasoning.

One small addition:

MHarmonizerMB - middle C is still labeled 'C0' in the Harmony panel. I haven't used this plugin yet, maybe there's a reason, but because it's not mapped to an FFT or a EQ band, maybe it's an oversight.

In MHarmonizerMB the octaves are actually more like "pitch shifts", so 0 means "0 octaves up".
