Yes, I had forgotten about unison mode on the Prophet 5! That's probably it.

Twangström looks visually amazing! It appears like a spring-reverb plugin, but it might be worth trying out the demo to check out the delay/chorus effects you say it can do.

I figured out that Eventide allows for a 30-day demo, so I've done that and it appears to work well. I'll keep testing it out some more, with different synth and other sounds before deciding. The free Imaginado DLYM plugin is also nice! I also see that getting the right sound is a matter of knowing what you're doing, or rely on some good presets for starters!

I think they meant ColourCopy not Twangstrom. ColourCopy is a BBD delay that can also do chorus and flange.

Here's an example of the sound i'm looking to recreate. I believe the Prophet-5 bass here has chorus

I think my device was quite close to this. You can't do it with a normal flanger or chorus stomp pedal.
Anyway, you need a mix knob to attenuate the delayed output, else it is not subtle enough.

Point is, you could even use a 1-voice synth and have a legit detune that does not ruin pitch!

I just came across the Kilohearts Ensemble. Has anyone used it and would like to share their opinions?

I'm still waiting for the email for starting the demo, but the web page demo (right hand side of the above page) sound great!
And the price is right (US$ 14.50 until 11th November).

I've played around with the Eventide Tricerachorus demo but so far haven't been blown away, but perhaps I just haven't found a suitable preset or figured out how to use it properly. I'm assuming such a well known brand would be the one to go for, but maybe they're just offering something else than the typical 70s/80s "ensemble" type sound. I really liked the one in my Roland VP-330 vocoder.

Xils Lab Chor'X has no mention before but worth a test IMO. 4 modes with 330 included.

After trying several demo-plugins I realize that they all have their own interpretation of what an "ensemble" is. For me it's the Roland VP-330 vocoder's ensemble effect, and the Xils Lab Chor'X as suggested here fits that bill nicely, but a little expensive for my liking. I hope there'll be a discount soon.
In the meantime I bought Kiloheart's Ensemble for half price (I think it was US$ 14.50) which isn't the same thing, but is a powerful chorus/ensemble type of effect and not least -is quick and easy to use. I like that clean and simple user interface.
So they each have their purpose.

Not aware of anything that tracks prices and emails alerts for plugins, but the following is the most comprehensive site for plugin discounts. You can search the history to find out retroactively how often vendors discount and at what percentages.

Awesome! I searched for a plugin I had purchased a little while back at a reduced price and came across PluginDeals.net which looks interesting.

@telecode: You're an Amplitube user, right? Makes me wonder if IK Multimedia's Chorus C1/Chorus-1 effect sounds exactly the same as the one from the JC-120. But then I might be going off-topic.
