What is the demo limitation?
The demo version is fully functional except for the ability to recall settings.

Well you could make your own feedback delay networks in Reaktor but the way AriesVerb implements them, making it all so easy to operate, may be difficult. The graphical feedback from the matrix display is also extremely handy for "seeing" ringing and you can quite quickly learn to interpret the display and know what you are getting before you even feed audio through it.

Then there is also a very nice envelope follower section that can work as either a gate or a compressor which further makes it possible to tweak things.

So in short, I think AriesVerb is pretty unique and that's probably it's strongest merit. It's such a shame it never got completed. :(

Here's the original release announcement (16th November 2004):

So happy 16th birthday! That is a very long time to be in beta, but the latest release was in 2017, so I guess it is still being developed?

Christian Schüler still posting about AriesVerb in the Ariescode sub-forum here at KVR as of September 2020:

Ah good catch! Didn't realize Christian is active here on the forums. That gives the price tag a lot more solidity. He is even mentioning the ARM architecture so perhaps there are updates coming in the future? Well, I've definitely got my moneys worth as I bought it a few years after it's release.

I still have the old GUI-less betas from way back when... Even then I was impressed with the sound, and still am, but I ain't paying $140 for something that's been in beta for 16 years with little discernable recent progress (that I'm aware of, at least).
A well-behaved signature.

Beware, plug is not automatable, ie absolutely, for all parameters. If it may important for you, ofcourse.

Very true. This is absolutely one of it's biggest negatives. There isn't a single automatable parameter, not even dry/wet control. Meaning you have to jump through some hoops if you want to modulate things.

Yes, well, if can come to terms with it (or somehow really go around, like in dry\wet or bypass button case), then there is features that become simple unusable, like reverb freeze button.

let me get this straight, this joint been in development for 16 years, still beta, developer went awol, no desire of finishing, and asking price is 139$, is that right? what went wrong?

this is crazy. I mean, Andy Cytomic been really dodging that Tube Screamer for years, but at least he's asking 29 bucks or something.

It's a plugin stuck in the past, pricing included. For me personally it's been well worth it as I've already got way over a decade of use from it. I still think it's one of the best modulation/delay/reverb effects out there. It's strength is it's uniqueness and stability (can't remember when it ever crashed). Weakness being the rather archaic UI and the above mentioned lack of any automatable parameters.

It's definitely not a plugin for the ordinary person who just wants to make music and don't like to tweak stuff.

I'm think, it's Just the best. (+ really no any crashes, zero cpu usage, i even like UI). And this makes the lack of automation a real pain in the ass. The dude from the past pages is right - this is a half open matrix. Very disappointing. I don’t know, for me a plugin without automation is like a dead static copy of device (or sampled synth). The point here is rather not whether we will often use this ability, but in the very principle.

Totally agree with you. I've done some pretty heavy workarounds when I wanted to automate stuff, doing it the oldschool way of simply recording the output from the plugin and tweaking what I wanted in real time with the mouse.. sigh.

Yes it's the only way that remains. (Heh although frankly in this old approach is hidden a bunch of creativity, pk no matter)

Post

the 4a version does automate everything (at least shows automatable parameters, and can recall presets), but has no GUI and the older, "mathematical" parameter set. the sound is already exciting enough.
