FR: Remember vertical zoom in piano roll

An image speaks a thousand words. The piano roll in Ableton Live remembers the vertical zoom level per-clip. Bitwig never remembers the zoom level. This is barely tolerable, and requires users to constantly adjust zoom level for no good reason. This request is for the zoom level to be remembered on a per-clip basis.
I will email this FR and a link to this thread to Bitwig support exactly a week from today, so
don't forget to vote. Cheers!

Can't say it ever bothered me, but +1

Yeah, bothered me from day one. Emailed them about it, doubt it'll ever change - usually the devs don't care much about workflow enhancements.
Good luck with your request, though.

Yes, I agree with this request. While they are at it, clips should remember 'toggle folded note lane status' and 'toggle expression area' when they are saved. The same with the audition notes setting.
I'd even settle for remembering one setting across all clips (like the note size, once you've set it once the size is consistent for all notes you draw until you change it).

Yeah I'd agree much of the effort goes into adding new features, modulators and plugins, and only a small amount goes into revisiting existing features and workflow enhancements. I already have a DAW with enough flaws (FL Studio) and the only thing that will get me to switch is a DAW with a fewer WTF moments.Redukt wrote: Sat Nov 14, 2020 1:24 pm Yeah, bothered me from day one. I just noticed this works correctly in the clip launcher, but not in the arrangement. In the clip launcher, Bitwig remembers the zoom level and whether it's piano roll or drum editor view per clip. It's only in arrangement clips it doesn't remember.
In Layer Editing Mode for clip launcher clips, Bitwig applies the zoom level and view style of the currently selected clip to all other clps. After exiting layer editing mode, it still remembers the zoom level and view style of each clip. I think this is a good design, but only in layer editing mode. It seems arrangement view behaves as if it was in layer editing mode all the time, even when it's not. I wonder if this is not intentional.

Sorry but for me this doesn't work - it doesn't remember the zoom in the clip launcher at all (osx mojave)Scoox wrote: Mon Nov 30, 2020 8:59 am I just noticed this works correctly in the clip launcher, but not in the arrangement. I'm on Windows but that shouldn't make any difference. There is also the mad auto-scrolling problem that happens whenever I click a clip in the arrange panel or switch views:
This doesn't happen when I click clips in the clip launcher. If it's a feature, what purpose does it serve?

Yes it 100% needs to remember this stuff.
And after you record midi into new clip it should be clever enough to display that new midi nicely when first entering the new clip - rather than showing a blank unused area then having to 'hunt' around for the note data.

Also please add "Remember horizontal scroll position in dsp lane"...! This one annoys me even more... Even Renoise has it. And Ableton of course, too.

Lots of good stuff in this thread. It's these things that make Bitwig a pit of a pain to use, which is a pity as so much of it is inspirational.
