It is a little too slow to open though...
Yeah...who knows, ideally there will be a config file one can use to reskin it like in which you can like U-HE's synths but I have my doubts. There is clearly from my eyes and feelings upon looking it closely that there still needs to be quite a bit of work on the GUI, not only to make it more exciting and visually attractive like in which you get the feeling of "wanting to use" like the revised and beautiful white skin of Dune 3 from Synapse Software, but also in the way the fonts look to have no horizontal breathing room between the bordering of the background sections. Little thought has been given for white space when it comes to labelling and makes the GUI look more squashed together.

I generally get the feeling that it's the case of squashing everything one can into an interface without the forethought of realising the importance of appropriate spacing and sizing of elements, including that of white space with this VST instrument. Things being oversized at the expense of things being smaller than they really should be comparatively. It's much easier to design an interface with less elements than to overindulge with many elements that give you less space and options. Clean cut design of angles and shading, and shadowing would be my preference as many would know from looking at my own GUI designs...
Maybe the Synth structure it's not finalized (more elements are in the future updates that didn't make it yet?) and that's way Skins and more detailed visual elements didn't get due focus and investment?

Is there no phase reset option on the WTs, or am I just blind?

Try setting Phase Randomization to 0

Actually, for me and the reason why I prefer darker GUI's with high contrast elements to work with, is because, there is a significant reduction in what's called 'white light emission' which for my eyes is more fatigue inducing whilst working in the dark. This works well in the day time, even on bright sunny days because the contrast is high enough to identify the position of elements on screen, where as mid tone grey or mid dark would be more difficult. Ultimately it comes down to one's lighting conditions one is in and in the case of Hive, there is five gamma levels in which to select from so the GUI's I create can look really dark or significantly lighter (grey tone background) for dull daytime composing.

Which asks another question... does Vital have any gamma control options ?

Already have Rapid, does this add anything that Rapid doesn't have?

To be clear, I didn’t test against the German or French filters in Serum. My goal wasn’t to try to make Serum or Vital sound the “best” that the given synth could sound, but rather find out whether with the same settings (including the same use of a digital filter) they would sound the same so as to expose any fundamental engine differences between the two.
No offense  Vital is fun and a great playground, but it has a sound that will produce controversy. I didnt go thru the whole thread, but i read at least 3 comments where people were saying "i regret buying Serum" or "fortunatly i didnt buy Serum". Peronally i can say, that it wont replace Serum for bread and butter sounds. And this is more important to me, than the rabit hole stuff. And for the rabit hole stuff ... well - let's see if it can compete with Phase Plant, Zebra and other modulars. At the moment i doubt that the talented youtubers (not the most popular ones) will drop Serum for Vital ... time will tell :)

I have no problems with the GUI and I find the layout very logical,so it's easy to work with the synth...

It would be good if SynthMaster 2 had that GUI

Vital is certainly creating a stir at v1.0.0,so it is fairly safe to predict that in time, refinements will appear and ideas from the user base will be implemented as well...

Most of the big players in the soft synth world didn't appear fully grown...

Zebra 2 is a very good case in point...

Matt is on to a winner here and he has shown that he knows how to code a fairly complex soft synth and make it look easy on the surface....

Those coding skills will be refined as Vital develops over time and the user base will be the real winners with the free lifetime updates...

I am sure that a few other developers are looking at the buzz that Vital is creating and wanting that same traction for their own products...

The consumers are spoilt for choice these days and we should be grateful that the internet has provided the opportunity for the smaller developers to step out of the shadows and into the light...

Matt....thanks for Vital and I know that it will only get better with time  :tu:

You shouldn't work in the dark on your computer because it damages your eyes - and not in the sunshine, either :!:

New things always produce controversy because some people hate change or want to rest on their laurels. It sounds great to me, and I like it more than the sound of Serum. Besides, Serum still produces controversy, so who cares.

And you get to decide who's talented? The only somewhat objective metric is popularity. I hate those people who go around telling others what they should or shouldn't like. Let the people decide what's good!

(Besides, talent is useless without hard work, and the most talented people are rarely the best because they never develop a good work ethic. )

From your link:

"Is it bad for your eyes to use a computer in the dark? Well, no and yes. Will your eyes suffer permanent damage from lights-out computer use? No. Your vision will not go spiraling down a tunnel towards further and further impairment. You won't develop some rare and serious condition. However, you may experience a very common ocular ailment called eye strain".

So I think it's a bit much to say "it damages your eyes".

Anyway the only issue I have with the appearance of Vital's GUI are the highlight colors. I would change them to something else if it was possible to customize the color scheme.
