Hi everyone, just a quick note that Waveform 11.2.0 is now available as public beta. Key features are support for Apple Silicon Macs. We have also started a massive UI cleanup. You will see menus are cleaned up and moved around. Some mouse behaviour is changing. If we've broken any of your workflows, please complain now, before we finalize anything. We've also been going through the backlog in the bug tracker cleaning things up.

Just a heads up, we are probably breaking our usual cadence of a new major version every year as this clean up / bug fix process will take us into the new year to complete. Expect a 11.5 in the new year, rather than 12.

Other key features if you don't want to read the entire change log:

* MIDI typing: Press caps lock and the computer keyboard always acts as a MIDI keyboard.
* Step clips now show in the MIDI editor window
* Snap resolution can be selected (audio / midi separate) instead of based on zoom
* Free version gets the actions panel, so the UIs are consistent
* Lots of new keyboard shortcuts
* Lots of new shortcut menus, try right clicking on things that didn't have menus before.

Full list of fixes since the last public beta:

This both answers a question I had as well as anticipates a very strong suggestion I was going to make.

I have to say this "heads up" is, in my opinion, excellent news. I'd rather see a sleek, fast, well-vetted v11.5 than a v12.

I suspect there's not a Waveform user out there who would disagree. I think Tracktion is making a significantly smart move, here.

With the new caps lock to enable typing keyboard it toggles when renaming a track which is confusing at first. Also a visual indicator in the UI for if it is enabled would be useful?

Post

* MIDI typing: Press caps lock and the computer keyboard always acts as a MIDI keyboard.

This Doesn't seem to work on Linux ( e.g V shows plugins B the browser etc )
Am I missing something obvious? thanks

Agree 100%, I've always thought the yearly version release put themselves under unnecessary pressure.

This currently isn't implemented for Linux. Still trying to find a way to steal keystrokes from plugins.

Thanks @FigBug , hopefully a fix comes soon :)

I agree too. Big thanks to Tracktion team!

Liking the new step clip editor in the MIDI editor window. One thing I would like to see on it is the beats and bar lines should be more noticeable rather than all the lines being the same. You can see this when you compare the standard piano roll to the step clip editor.

I can confirm that the bug associated with some plugin GUIs not appearing on linux (notably Uhe plugins, Xhip, LSP plugins) due to a JUCE bug is now fixed.

Hello There,

Since you guys are doing some UI Cleanup why also not some GUI improvement like Drawing "Curves" in Per Note Expression. 1 more thing, add the option to export midi just by selecting midi clip and export midi.

I recorded a video walk-through of the new interface changes and features.

I did this partly to organize my own thoughts while working on the documentation. Anyone that is interested in getting a snap shot of what has been done so far might enjoy watching this.

It runs about 30 minutes.

@ gigazaga

Hi Will !
Since some weeks, the TSC team says us and proposes us a lot of very interesting things, explanations, Betas and comments and...
I was a little bit lost ! :ud:

You have had a very interesting idea, making a "summarizing" video of the actual state, really very clear and very useful, as always with each of your informative and/or videos (or user guides) tutorials.

So, thank you very much for your help in maintaining my brain in a "non too heating" state,
and... waiting for the new Waveform DAW, and,
as usual, waiting for more videos from you !

Cheers
