XT is my main sequencer. I can do pretty much everything I want, right from within this program.

Of course when I need to timestretch something, or to lock my loops into a specific tempo, I use Live 4.

But even then, I still use XT as a vst to do some mad things to the audio in Live.

Its both my most used host, and my most used vst!!

I do like the sequencer in xt but for me it has a major drawback. If you create instruments and effects in it they don't show up on the main screen, they are hidden away within the sequencer. They should appear on the main screen and automatically be routed, ala reason style. I do beleive this is already a feature request though. I think this should be a priority though as for me it ruins the whole point of xt being modular if this kind of functionality isn't there for the sequencer.

this is one of the biggest misunderstandings about eXT

You can load vst's/vsti's directly into the sequencer just as you can load them into Cubase, Sonar etc. !

But within eXT you can even drag and drop them into the sequencer!

There's no need of using any modular-routing.

That's the third time I have to write it this week. :?

desperated

I mean - I don't know how many users of eXT still think that you have to route every single plugin you want to use within the sequencer manually from the main-area but it seem to be many. :-o

And I think that's precisely because eXT has all those modular-power - without it a new user would ask: 'now, how do I load a plugin?' but with eXT everyone knows that there's the modular-routing and most people don't even seem to imagine that it might already be possible in another way. But that doesn't stop them from crticizing eXT for not offering it. :?

Jens - you're so right (as usual) :) . I guess the lack of proper documentation (and to some extent the minimal visual feedback in the seq window) is to blame here.

This is true - people get scared away cos it looks horribly(beautifully :D ) complex, but it needn't be as we know.

I guess perhaps its a marketing thing. Lets be honest, Jorgen doesn't really market it as a straight-forward sequencer, if he was to emphasise that it can be very simple, more copies would sell i think.

I'm a total EXT noobie (3 days)....but apart from creating a sequencer and connecting 2 cables ( btw why not make it possible to access sequencer straight away?)....the rest was just left/right clicking and double clicking. doesn't get any easier than that. probably the easiest , most intuitive sequencer ever. i didn't need to use the modular section once (only for firing up the sequencer).
its so easy it seems a toy.

now the neagative points :
- when opening more than 2-3 midi tracks, instruments start missing the output and go silent..... -snip-

- u must assign each instrument to a midi channel manually or else it will completely start messing up each tracks original output ..... -snip-
Although these kind of posts belong to the eXT forum here @ KvR, it's obvious that there must be somehting wrong with your setup, maybe drivers? I've never had or heard of such problems.

You could do well to post a bug report (BR) describing the problem, complete with your system details to the eXT forum.

You just need to setup your default workspace. Then click "set as default" in the file menu. Now whenever you load up XT, just press ctrl + N (new file) and there it is.

you really had me confused until i read the "edit" section.

another thing i think xt needs (not sure weather its a fr or not...if it is i apologise). thats a "save as" function. either that or a default project. i tried to create a default project but then realised you coulden't specify it. i still however wanted to keep that file so i could recall it when i next used xt. went to do a save as...not there! :?

xt is definatly still rough around the edges without features like these. i can see though that it will become somthing that will rival probably even crush the cubases, sonars and logics of the world.

edit: ok, so it already does rival the above

Post

about the missing 'save as': well spotted - you have to right click in the main-area and there you can choose 'file' -> 'save as' but you can't click on the 'save'-button at the top-menu.

B.t.w.: since the latest version the 'open' button has completely disappeared from this menu. (probably because Jorgen needed the space for the new docking-function) - If the 'save'-button was a 'file'-menu with the options open, save, save as and whatnot it would imo much better.

What are you talking about, man? Set up eXT however you want sequencer or not, then right click in the main window & select 'set as default'..You don't need to name it, locate it, or navigate to it later on. All you have to do is hit the 'new' button in the Main window's taskbar across the top..

:?

edit: saving is disabled in demo mode, btw, so if you aren't registered, that's why you aren't seeing this option.

I'm having a bit of an issue here right now with the sequencer sending a note off on all sequencer tracks at bar 9 for some reason.
Well.. in the sequencer it reads bar 9, according to the piano roll editor inside the parts, each of the 2 parts (each 4 bars long according to the sequencer) is 16 bars in length.

Anyone know what thats about?

You may have laid a double note somewhere & not realized it. Try opening the midi window & click edit>delete doubles..You can lay as many notes one on top of the other as you want, although I'm not sure why this is..
