Automation recording resolution (lack of + PhasePlant)

I'm recording some automation via mouse adjustment of PhasePlant's GUI, and unlike with Pigments the result lacks all detail. I've switched off automatic smoothing, to no effect. I think this is related to processor load priorities and how the plugin communicates with the host; I think I got more detail by soloing the track I'm recording, but only slightly. Having said that, with the track solo'd the processor isn't under much load, so it's a bit strange.

I'm looking through settings to see if there's anything I've overlooked, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
