Jeez, I'd forgot about this album, one I never replaced after I sold my record collection in the early 2000's, just listened to the album on that u-tube link, think I might have to get a CD copy of this—cheers for the reminder.Dirtgrain wrote: ↑Mon Nov 23, 2020 4:02 pm Buddy Guy Stone Crazy:

Oh yeah he was one of the biggest influences on me getting a guitar - for me the passage around 26 in is just some of the most outstanding playing I have heardlfm wrote: ↑Mon Nov 23, 2020 1:41 pm
I also like early Jan Akkerman(Focus) in his playing. Incredible sensitivity and expression in what he did.
17:40 into this one from Focus 3 album(titel song Focus III)

Not in any order:
Jimmy Page
Jimi Hendrix
Steve Howe
David Gilmour
Angus Young
Brian May
Richie Blackmore
Tony Iommi
Elliot Easton (The Cars)
John Fogerty. Not from a technical perspective, but he had an amazing knack of always playing the right thing.
Billy Gibbons
Jeff "Skunk" Baxter (Steely Dan, others)
Michael Gurley (dada) - Check out "Dorina", "Dim", or "Posters"
Richard Lloyd/Robert Quine - for their work with Matthew Sweet
Ross Godfrey (Morcheeba) - "The Sea" is a master class in wah usage.
Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys)
Nels Cline - Two words: "Impossible Germany"
Brian Setzer
Vince Gill
Paul McCartney - Many people don't know that he played lead on a lot of Beatles tracks, such as "Good Morning", "The End", or "Taxman".
Hank Marvin
Steve Wilson (Porcupine Tree)

No particular order because thats really not fair to anyone:
1. Guthrie Govan (absolute wizard at pretty much any style)
2. Shawn Lane (technical abilities that will likely never be matched)
3. Mateus Asato (innate musicality to everything he plays)
4. Jason Becker (both technically and compositionally gifted. Wheelchair-bound these days, but still composing I believe)
5. Matteo Mancuso (absurd technical ability with unique technique)
6. Paul Gilbert (machine. Incredible how clean and articulate everything he plays is)
7. Van Halen (Rest in peace)
8. Teemu Mäntysaari (unique phrasing of rapid musical phrases, amazing technique)
9. Kiko Loureiro (another master of many different styles. great solo albums and compositions)
10. Marty Friedman (melody master. also nobody does vibrato quite like Marty)
