Normally you got 4 beats (same as one quarter note) per measure, so 1/4th of one beat is 1/16th note, not 1/64th.
But how may beats per measure has 2-step

OK this is how I do it.

Channel settings > FUNC > then use the time:ofs setting to change the time your sample attacks. This is basicly the "swing" option but you can use it on all the steps.

JaseisMusic wrote:thanks, I'll look into the snap settings and piano roll. Seems a little inefficient,I was hoping to keep it in the step seq. .But hopefully FL5 will enable that.
"snap" settings are in a small black box at the top of the screen. there is line, cell, none, 1/4, 1/8, etc. the box says snap under it. to get into your pianoroll, just press f7 on the channel you want. Don't forget your snap setting though. you can also zoom in or out of your piano roll window using the squarey thing at the top right. Hope that helps.
DONT DOUBLE THE TEMPO.

not sure if this helps, but under the "project general settings" dialog box, set the timebase to a higher multiple, like 384 instead of 96, and you can have incredibly high resolution in the piano roll for micro beats.

Hey I opened up a new pattern so I can play a melody along with the other patterns. I need the melody to be 32 beats but it won't extend the pattern past 16. :help:

Post

The pattern length is in bars, not beats, but I can't make it go past 16 bars either, even though the counter goes to 64.

I don't see a track monitor and the mixer is just for effects. How do you know when a track level is clipping? is there a monitor level I'm missing?

Post

BTW - if you're making beats a very handy utility is the "Groove quantise" in the piano roll.

You can knock up the basic bones of a beat in the Step Sequencer, then right click the channel and use the "Send to Piano Roll" to get the beat into the piano roll where you can finesse it.

In the Piano Roll, go to "Files->Tools->Quantise" (or press Alt-Q) and at the top of the quantise dialog box is the "Groove Template" option. Load a groove and you can quantise to it.

You can also make your own grooves in the piano roll and use "File->Save score as..." and save them into the "Scores/Quantisation" directory for use in the groove quantise.
Also, I find it very handy to use the beatslicer plugin to get a groove from a break I like. Use the beat slicer plugin to chop up the break, then dump the beat to the piano roll as "Flatten (groove)". You then save the groove as before for use in groove quantisation.

IMHO, using the piano roll and grooves will really get the most out of your beats.

Have you read the manual? Which version are you using?

Anyway, each track has a monitor, including the master channel. Problem with FLS is that everything is a bit smallish... :) I use the PHP VintageMeter (free) to get more control.

Yes I read the manual, I have fruityloops version, but will upgrade soon. Where do you see the track monitor? Is it where the mixer is, but I need to assign them? It looked like that was just an effects router not a track monitor.I don't see that info in the manual. :(

The mixer is, in fact, a very good mixer, with sends, inserts, fx routing and basically everything you want from a mixer (okay, not everything, there is no whiskey dispenser).

The track monitors are the little vertical bars right under the track number.

Or are we talking about different things here? I might have misunderstood your question...

Also, if you click on a track, check out the properties on the right of the mixer panel. That is perhaps what you're looking for, with a larger track audio bar and volume control, plus EQ and sends controls.

Okay, I was thrown off because the little window where you assign a mixer channel says "FX" so I thought it was just for fx, plus the mixer doesn't have any channels assigned to it until you do that. I don't understand why it's not pre assigned, because you could assign two channels to the same mixer track and not monitor it accurately, right?

Post

it's in the end way more flexible this way. You can basically create group tracks on any of the "fx" channels, and route anything the way you want it. I admit that it can be a bit difficult to figure out at first, but it's definitely a great feature.

If only the sliders were a bit bigger.....
