Hello world,
how's it going?
We are finally nearing the release of Bazille 1.1.1, and, as always, want to give you a chance to take it for a spin with the release candidate.
There are some important changes, so please read carfully before installing the update.
Downloads:
Bazille 1.1.1 RC 10667 Mac
Bazille 1.1.1 RC 10667 Win
No Linux version just yet, we are still working on ironing out some issues there.
On Windows, please carefully check the suggested installation paths, and adjust them, if needed.
On Mac, Bazille is now fully compatible with the new macOS Big Sur.
Support for Mac 32bit has been discontinued. This was a necessity for future Apple Silicon support (M1 support not included yet).
The most important change are some (quite many, actually) bug fixes and improvements in the LFO, sequencer and envelope trigger sections. This section was never free of bugs, glitches and oddities, so we took a lot of time and effort (a.k.a. sweat) to finally get it all right.
This comes with the caveat of expected sound changes in some presets.
We already adjusted the factory presets accordingly, and notified soundset developers, so they can make the necessary refinements in their Bazille soundsets, and issue updates asap.
For those of you who have created their own presets, and find that some are not playing as intended anymore, we updated the patch conversion tips file with guidelines how to correct them.
For this reason we also recommend to not install this version if you have unfinished projects using Bazille.
Only update once you are done with them, or alternatively bounce the Bazille tracks to audio beforehand.
It's also a good idea to create a backup of your presets before updating, so you can quickly go back the the old versions, should you run into issues while adjusting your presets.
Additionally, the factory library has been reworked and tagged. The "Competition Presets" folder was removed, the best of those presets are now polished and integrated into the main factory library.
Please let us know immediately if you stumble over any quirks, oddities or outright bugs.
Changes since version 1.1, revision 3898(Win)/3899(Mac):
Improvements:
* macOS Big Sur compatibility
* macOS 32bit support discontinued
* VST3 support added
* New preset browser
* Soundset installer support
* Bigger preset browser for Gearporn skin
* 187 new presets (including our BazilleCM/BeatZille presets)
* Factory library tagged and reworked
* Pitch Bend range now +/−48
* Improved GUI performance
* Minor GUI fixes/tweaks
* Various installer improvements
* Added file type icons on Windows
* Plugin format and OS info shown next to revision number
* Changed how LFO Wave and LFO Phase influence envelope triggering
Bug Fixes:
* Fixed: multiple sequencer issues
* Fixed: multiple issues with envelope triggering via LFO and sequencer
* Fixed: notes starting on same time stamp but different MIDI channel might not play
* Fixed: dialogs appearing transparent in Cubase 10.5 and Logic Pro
* Fixed: LFO in sync mode too slow on its first cycle
* Fixed: mapping generator not updating instantly
* Fixed: multiplex could kill audio output
* Fixed: DC buildup in distortion module
* Various small fixes and improvements
Known Issues:
* Rare DC issue (audio clicks, sound cuts out, plugin needs to be reloaded)
* Context menus need plugin focus to work (macOS issue)
* If you experience GUI glitches when switching presets, avoid using the cable style "natural"
Special Notes:
The Windows installer was improved to prevent common installations issues. Please check the suggested installation paths during installation, making sure the update is installed into the same location as the previous version, and all installed plugin formats are being updated.
Envelope triggering via LFO and sequencer was reworked in order to fix multiple bugs in this area. This means some presets might not sound as intended anymore. We therefore recommend to finish ongoing projects before updating to the new version. Please refer to the "Patch Conversion Tips" file to get more info on how to adjust your presets.
COMPETITION PRESETS folder removed, "best of" selection of 419 presets now integrated into main category folders as v0.9 presets. If necessary, save backup of original folder and move it back to preset area after update.
Cheers, and a nice weekend to everyone,
Tas

It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

@resistant: Could you please tell us something about that bug? I can't see anything obviously wrong in the above image (I might not be looking carefully enough, though).

I don't see an issue there, please explain.resistent wrote: Fri Nov 27, 2020 2:43 pm Thanks. Happy to see some updates for Bazille. However, the graphic bug in the SEQ is still there
The orange lines in the sequencer steps will display the value of the active snapshot, not of the selected snapshot.
You have selected snapshot two, but snapshot 1 is currently active.

Fantastic ! Some of my patches sound indeed different... but it adds to their unpredictability in the most positive way, so I'm happy hehe
Visual glitch here, with various knobs : GUI size x110%, VST 3 64bit / Live 11 / Win 10 20H9
FWIW it already happened with previous beta versions (I was then using the VST3 and AU with Live 10.1 and Mojave)

Some elements can be offset ever so slightly in different GUI sizes. The current resizing system makes it impossible to position all elements on exactly the same relative position in all sizes. And yup, we tried. Get it right in one size, and whoops, it's offset in another.

Gotcha, not a deal-breaker. Baz is definitely my favorite synth, no matter what.tasmaniandevil wrote: Fri Nov 27, 2020 3:30 pmSome elements can be offset ever so slightly in different GUI sizes. Thanks for the 1.1.1 update. For the moment just going through the new presets and there are little marvels among them
I noticed that some generative or loop based presets from other sound developers went silent. For instance in Sound Authors Equinox sound set BL Bass off, BL Plissken, GEN Clinky Sprinky, GEN Hickups, GEN Minor 7th Heaven, GEN Pots & Pans, GEN Rouge City, GEN Snake Charmer, GEN Sprites, GEN Winter, SEQ Bounce House, SEQ Clip-Clops, SEQ Cloak & Dagger, SEQ Skylark, SEQ Sweet Dreams do not work anymore. On Reaper 6.14 win64x, VST2/VST3. May somebody can confirm this?

It's all explained in the first post. We contacted all the third party developers we could find to inform them about the necessary adjustments they need to make to their presets. You can also read the patch conversion tips file included in the installer for information about how to adjust the presets.Cepheus wrote: Fri Nov 27, 2020 10:31 pm I noticed that some generative or loop based presets from other sound developers went silent.

Thanks Tass, saw that and “If the preset is silent, then the LFO that trigger the envelope has its "Wave" parameter at zero. Turn it up a bit until you find a value that does the trick. In general, adjust Wave and Phase until you find a triggering behaviour that works for the preset.”tasmaniandevil wrote: Fri Nov 27, 2020 10:43 pmIt's all explained in the first post. I think I will wait till Brain fixes this. I have the feeling that I’m performing an unauthorized brain surgery or …I should get sometime a better understanding of more complex sound programming in Bazille.

Indeed, those patches were "broken" by the new LFO behavior with LFO triggered envelopes. I'm still working on fixes, but the fix isn't always so obvious. Sometimes I have to change envelope release times, and that changes the behavior of the patch ever so slightly. Not exactly a dealbreaker, but so far I've seen enough evidence that there will most certainly be patches that cannot be restored to their previous state, which I'm not thrilled about.Cepheus wrote: Fri Nov 27, 2020 10:31 pm Thanks for the 1.1.1 update. I won't rock the boat too much, especially since I've only created a single library with only 100 patches, but if I were ZenSound or Leap Into The Void, who've made several Bazille soundsets over the years, I would be sweating bullets trying to figure out exactly how to repair several hundred sounds without passing a kidney stone.
Fixing bugs is one thing. Changing the fundamental behavior of an instrument is another. Now don't get me wrong, I love the new relationship between LFOs and triggered envelopes, but I'm a little worried that this update will send some shockwaves through the sound design community...and our customers, who will soon no longer be able to use patches they paid for.
I'll try to get an updated version of Equinox put together ASAP, but it's proving to be more of a challenge than expected. For now, I encourage my customers to only install the VST3 version of v1.1.1 and keep Rev.3898 where it is on your system. The VST3 version automatically installs in a separate location, so you can still enjoy the new version when you want; the old VST2 version will still be installed where it used to be. Just be sure to create a separate data folder and manually install v1.1.1's "resources" to that location. Simple workaround until I release an updated version.
