Bazille 1.1.1 RC revision 10667

I don't think that slight changes to very few presets will cause any uproar at all. The previous behaviour was "esoteric" at best.
Thing is, we're happy to help sound designers out, but that certainly depends on the tone they set in their communication. As we pointed out, we have reached out to many sound designers who sell soundsets for Bazille. Only a handful wrote back, so we guess many don't see any problem. A few wrote back in an unsettling tone, and I'll continue this post explaining why that's uncalled for.
Now let's see where we are. Sadly, Bazille is one of our least popular synths. Normal companies would have discontinued it. Normal companies would also have discontinued Hive before we added wavetables. With normal companies, sound designers would lose their work a lot quicker than they do with the way we think. And out thinking is based on the question "how do we bring Bazille into the future, like we did with Hive?".
We have updated our LFOs with a bugfix that makes the release behaviour for envelope triggers reliable. It was buggy before because the phase parameter would not affect it as intended. In fact it was neglected because the code was referring to a wrong variable. In addition, LFOs are now properly initialised, making the behaviour of the LFOs consistent between the first few notes on freshly opened instances vs. playing after a while. We also do not merge the normal Gate into the LFO triggers anymore. Most notably maybe, an LFO with the Wave parameter set to zero would not send any triggers, as the GateOff coincides with the GateOn.
All of these changes have been added to Hive a few years ago, as far as they apply, and it did not cause any larger issue. Furthermore a preset would have to be extremely complex to make a fix impossible.
Anyhow, there's something crucial about this release, in that it finally brings Bazille from a revision below 4000 to a revision above 10000, a warp forward 5 years of vast change and modernisation. This is a milestone before we can think about making Bazille more attractive in a similar way as we did for Hive. The fixes in the LFO and Sequencer are fundamental to this, and I think it would be rather short sighted of people to complain too much about relatively minor changes without considering the possibilities that will open up.

Urs, I am sure you know my views from elsewhere.
I don't think anyone is or would argue about/not fixing what needed to be fixed.
Btw I am finally going thru the entire Factory Bank and favouriting etc....Viktor great job in Curating and tagging etc.
thanks

And yet it's one of the most fun things I know.Urs wrote: Sat Nov 28, 2020 1:39 pm Sadly, Bazille is one of our least popular synths. Normal companies would have discontinued it.
How glad I am that you're not normal companies.

Yeah, so glad! Bazille is my favorite synth ever... hardware or software (I've had a lot of both). It's such an organic and beautiful sounding synth. It's the one synth I would not want to do without.

I am most a preset guy. I am going thru the entire factory bank finally and indeed I was at several of doing so when I remembered you Always saying that..... that it is your favourite synth ever and I think I have a much better appreciation for that view point now.pdxindy wrote: Sat Nov 28, 2020 4:03 pmYeah, so glad! I think U-he is my favourite synth developer. They have given us Zebra, Repro-1, Repro-5 and some top quality freebies too, but to create a modular at the same high quality makes this modular fan very happy indeed!pdxindy wrote: Sat Nov 28, 2020 4:03 pmYeah, so glad! When I analyze my decisions to reach for a certain sound--be it a synth or otherwise--it basically comes down to context. This happens in the primary 'imagined stage' of thinking about what sound to reach for, and ultimately auditioning it. I might love a certain sound by itself, but if it doesn't fit, I won't use it. I'm sure everyone here is familiar with this.
The question then turns into, 'why don't I reach for Bazille as opposes to Diva?' Why do I often reach for Repro first, but end up going with Diva? Why do I like the sound of Repro and Bazille on their own, whereas Diva not so much--but still use Diva mostly?
I could guess and figure a bunch of ways, but ultimately it's the style of music I dwell upon which keeps me in a certain box and excludes certain sounds and workflows.
Therefore, perhaps in this era, regarding the prevalent music, it isn't Bazille's time. Yet, all it take is one innovator, who comes along and makes the 'Bazille sound' a thing, and then it's suddenly a new era.

Merci for all the hard work here.
Would there be a way to run the old and new versions of Baz at the same time ?
I have over 100e invested in Leap Into The Void Bazille Soundsets which are very good, was Mikael one of the sound designers that responded btw ?
I did not save my old Bazille installers but can I go back to the old version if worse come worse ?

Oddly enough, Equinox is my best selling library...with Third Eye for Diva trailing right behind it.

Of all u-he synths, the one that intimidates me the most is Bazille........ yes even more than Zebra (which I bought and looked at a tutorial so I have a decent idea of what is what there)... I wouldn't even know where to start to make a patch for it. Maybe the reputed Cook Book may help..
So an excellent sound bank (like Equinox) for me became a no brainer.
