it can run standalone
granurise
in MAX 8.
in the free version. so i asked what is the free version? (asked the developer, because there is no free version, but in a way;)
it is the version that you demo, and after 30 days, works without saving patches. but granurise still works, within MAX 8, after that period.
and yes M4L must also be version 8. it is an amazing device, or instrument, a lot of possibilities, great with roli, also great without roli.
some devices/apps don't recquire 8, but it is a choice, perhaps 8 gives more functionality.
but if you have live 9, you can't use it as an M4L device, but still as a "standalone" device.

biotek2 has MPE, a granular oscillator, and VA oscillators, and a sample oscillator. no wavetable oscillators.poonna wrote: Sat Nov 28, 2020 5:05 pm What about Biotek 2? How does it compare against Pigments 2 or Equator 2?
4 oscillators per layers, max 12 layers. 2 filters, amp. effects per layer.
and an incredible routing.
comparing? i have pigments 2, ecquator 2 not (i have still equator(1)).
biotek2 can be demoed. as pigments 2. equator, with money refund..
totally different me thinks, there is of course some overlap. but for granular, pigments 2 is great, biotek2 also. granulizer 2 i bought, and i like it. totally different a more specialized granulizer, although the granular engine in pigments is very powerfull, and in my experience also the granular oscillator in biotek2.
but the three you mention are not only granular synths, but are very capable as granular synths, i can't say a lot about equator 2 of course.

Granulab
The standalone is a classic Ive been using for 20 years
The VST version is also pretty damn fine but Im biased, I was overjoyed when it was released

Pigments 2 is the Bentley of granular at the moment imo.

I was looking through this thread for granular synths a few months ago and settled on Grain Scanner. Pigments has only a small subset of the features of that one. It's much more stable and user friendly though. So it depends on your priorities I guess. Personally, I use Grain Scanner over Pigments for granular sounds.

Out of curiosity, like what? Which features Grain Scanner has that Pigments cannot do?haslo wrote: Sat Nov 28, 2020 9:10 pmI was looking through this thread for granular synths a few months ago and settled on Grain Scanner. Pigments has only a small subset of the features of that one.

Pigments is just okay--but in a synth, just as it is in Falcon or Rapid, it's nice. The granular is not on the level of Padshop.
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

I disagree. Although it doesn't have the multi-granular stacking of Halion (which I think padshop has too?), it makes up for it with the round robin grains on the up to 6 samples per granular oscillator.Dirtgrain wrote: Sat Nov 28, 2020 10:20 pm Pigments is just okay--but in a synth, just as it is in Falcon or Rapid, it's nice. You mean the grain window/shape? Yes there are plenty of option for that. That was another thing that appealed to me in while already having the Bitwig sampler (which doesn't have grain shapes).pdxindy wrote: Sat Nov 28, 2020 10:44 pmAny windowing options?Echoes in the Attic wrote: Sat Nov 28, 2020 10:38 pmI disagree. The round robin grains thing is neat, but I don't know that it would lead me to making sounds that I would want to use that I could not also make in Padshop. I'm open to being wrong on that, and I'd love to hear more. I have tried it several times in the demo.

I'd say it's more than just that though. The modulation system in Pigments is more advanced. I also like that it is mpe, which is especially suitable for granular sounds.Dirtgrain wrote: Sun Nov 29, 2020 12:03 am The round robin grains thing is neat, but I don't know that it would lead me to making sounds that I would want to use that I could not also make in Padshop. +up to 256 simultaneous grains. If that is not lush enough... The Pigments modulation system totally crushes the Padshop’s one. (Yeah I have both)
