Neon Breath wrote: Sat Nov 28, 2020 6:17 pmPigments 2 is the Bentley of granular at the moment imo.
I was looking through this thread for granular synths a few months ago and settled on Grain Scanner. Pigments has only a small subset of the features of that one.
Out of curiosity, like what? Which features Grain Scanner has that Pigments cannot do?
It is mostly the control over where the grains come from, for me. Grain Scanner allows me to select the section of the sample that the grains should be generated from, and allows me to define whether the overall direction of the grains that are picked goes forward through the sample, backward, or won't move, or anything in between. Pigments only has a "Start" control (equivalent to Grain Scanner's "Position") and always uses the equivalent settings of "start at 0%" (inconsequental because the playhead doesn't move backwards), "end at 100%" and "100% forward scan" with "direction >|". Unless I've missed something.

Edit: I did miss something, upon closer inspection the Pigments loop controls handle start, end and direction. Leaves only the "scan" then. That was the first thing I Iooked for though, and it's almost never at 100% forward for me.

I did underestimate Pigments on my cursory glance, gonna use it more often now for granular stuff I'm sure. Though I am more used to Grain Scanner's UI by now, but that's a subjective thing, and using the Pigments engine offers other benefits.

If you have Kontakt Full, Aquiver is pretty great fun for $5! Available for 27 more hours... (from 11/29 8:16pm est)

Stream from Delta Sound Labs is pretty cool imho, maybe not the best granular plugin but worth a look, particularly in regard to live sound granularization. I am familiar with Ricky (dev) from his work in eurorack, great guy with a phd in music tech I believe. Deltal Sound Labs is a music prod school in Ohio, so you can consider the tech in Stream as being pretty good I think.

Crusher - X it's amazing indeed and the last version has new good features but no, there aren't free upgrades, only updates.

The price upgrade from the previous version is 99EU (85 on promo for a while.)

there is a price statement on the webpage: https://www.accsone.com/about/pricing-statement

Some months later down the road and I'm still zigzagging between Padshop 2, VPS Avenger and The Mangle but at the end of the day Avenger gets the most use because of its versatility (8 OSCs, excellent filters, modulation & FX).
(Can't wait to see what Synthmaster 3 brings to the table though).

I have all three and you can't go wrong with either. Avenger is the most complete but with PS2 you'll have also spectral processing. I only wish they implement MPE on Avenger in the next update.

pizzatime wrote: Mon Dec 07, 2020 10:41 pm I just bought Crusher-x - I couldn't resist.
Was seriously excited to start modulating everything from within Bitwig (as midi modulations don't work in demo) but I am gutted to find that even simply modulating a volume slider or something with a Bitwig LFO will spike my CPU to past 50% or even 100%..
What the hell! I have been agonising (first world problems I know) whether to go for it or not as not earning money at the minute. Will see what reply I get from Accsone - I cant find any other posts about this so maybe just my laptop..
Don't suppose anyone reading this owns Bitwig and (CPU) Crusher-x?
To avoid having a too technical subject about one specific plugin, I suggest you to post your issue directly in the official accSone forums:

I am watching with interest. I thought about buying it but if it lays waste to Bitwig in this way I am on to something else.

Love crusher-X, but it's a fat, very fat CPU bastard. One of the worst around I'd say, compared to all the other granular tools I have. It’s really great, but man it asks alot of ressources for sometimes very basic granulation. I feel a solid optimization job needs to be done in its engine, although I have no idea what's under the hood. But most other granular synths aren't hungry as crusher-X.

I like crusher-X as well, though I only bought it once and never upgraded it the last few versions.

I wouldn't get my hopes up there. I once asked their support for MPE and got a rather snide reply that this will never ever happen...
