so i found this GEM.
for only 99$ on sale, you can get a 4x oversampled clipper that's a total ripoff of Pro-L2, offers absolutely nothing over half as cheap Voxengo, Sir and Venn.

gotta check that one.
I am aware it aliases quite a bit unfortunately but the shape of the clipper retains the punch of the signal quite well which is not at all the case with V-Clip on any of its curves or the custom curves that i just checked as i hadn't heard of it before.i don't know how else to describe it but V-Clip sounds like the transfer curve is super imposed on top of the input which gives a perception that the transients lose their bite and almost if though the envelope has changed somehow and despite the annoying issue of aliasing, Flatliner retains the contour of the envelopes a lot better. i thought maybe there was DC blocking or something and what i was hearing was a slight phase rotation but that is not at all what is going on. i just think the curves in Flatline are more computationally precise or something like that than most other clippers. it's similar to Standard Clip but Flatliner doesn't sound clipped till a fair bit of squaring off and waaay after Standard Clip. you can block sounds off into a full on sosig and Flatline still sounds punchy..again, not at all the case with V-Clip,Big Clipper,K-Clip,OVC 128,insert your favourite clipper herePloki wrote: Tue Dec 01, 2020 3:45 pm it's a clipper that aliases due to insufficient oversampling, if you like the sound so much just use stock clipper in your daw
the 4 minutes i had it on my computer it looked a lot like OVC-128 except with no oversampling thoTIMT wrote: Tue Dec 01, 2020 4:45 pmI am aware it aliases quite a bit unfortunately but the shape of the clipper retains the punch of the signal quite well which is not at all the case with V-Clip on any of its curves or the custom curves that i just checked as i hadn't heard of it before.i don't know how else to describe it but V-Clip sounds like the transfer curve is super imposed on top of the input which gives a perception that the transients lose their bite and almost if though the envelope has changed somehow and despite the annoying issue of aliasing, Flatliner retains the contour of the envelopes a lot better. i thought maybe there was DC blocking or something and what i was hearing was a slight phase rotation but that is not at all what is going on. i just think the curves in Flatline are more computationally precise or something like that than most other clippers. it's similar to Standard Clip but Flatliner doesn't sound clipped till a fair bit of squaring off and waaay after Standard Clip. you can block sounds off into a full on sosig and Flatline still sounds punchy..again, not at all the case with V-Clip,Big Clipper,K-Clip,OVC 128,insert your favourite clipper herePloki wrote: Tue Dec 01, 2020 3:45 pm it's a clipper that aliases due to insufficient oversampling, if you like the sound so much just use stock clipper in your daw
Have you ever heard the Kilohearts plugin Faturator?when you dial in the "fuzz"parameter that gives you a very exaggerated and awful example of what i mean by a waveshaper unable to retain the contour of the sound it was fed. the additional harmonics and waveshaping sounds opposed to the input sound which is something i hear pretty often with plugins except for UAD,Standard Clip and now this Flatline
Really does need more oversampling though
So it's a crapper AND a clipper?TIMT wrote: Tue Dec 01, 2020 3:24 pm Well, shit on this thing all you want but it sounds f**king amazing lol..
Guess I have to level-up quite a bit before I can actually make use of Flatline. Until then, the TDR Limiter will suffice.TIMT wrote: Tue Dec 01, 2020 3:24 pm Well, shit on this thing all you want but it sounds f**king amazing lol..
What's "sales speak"about clipping high end analog converters? It's a standard in mastering houses for instance and it definitely doesn't sound like a basic hard clipper ITB either l, so there is merit to it. Flatline is on parr but the aliasing can get pretty bad. not sure why they thought 4x oversampling would be enough for a final clipperJkist wrote: Tue Dec 01, 2020 8:10 pm
I absolutely love anything by Plini, and I think it would be hard to argue that the masters on his latest album are anything less than stellar. So when I saw this video I was of course very intrigued. However, I really do hate all the sales-speak jargon, he goes on and on about "clipping top-tier analog-to-digital converters on their way back into the system", and how "until this glorious gift from god" plugin graced us, it was impossible in the digital realm.
He claims no other plugin can do this, and while I don't even fully understand the sound hes talking about, I have serious doubts about this claim. Either way though yes, I am intrigued, but not $130 for a limiter / clipper intrigued.
