True Stereo Panning

I can't see a way to do this in Waveform, just stereo balancing. Perhaps one of the 'artisan' plugins does it, but I can't make any sense of them. Back in the 32bit days I used to use MDA image a lot.
Is there such a feature?

DMG Audio makes a free utility plugin called TrackControl that lets you adjust either balance or channel pan L/R. That should be able to achieve true panning. I've never had any issues with it in Waveform, and it's lightweight.

Ah, beautiful. Clean interface with all features covered, and the high pass is neat to have in the same plugin.

A few other plugins to check out for this (though not free) are Panorama from Wave Arts (https://wavearts.com/products/plugins/panorama-6/) and Pan Knob from Boz Digital Labs (https://www.bozdigitallabs.com/product/pan-knob/).

Here's another free one that might work.
https://audec-music.com/adc-stereoimage/
(Looks like it's Mac-only for that plugin.)

Surely there must be consensus by now...

Loads of options there, thanks.
Ahem, Waveform should absolutely have this built in though.

The problem with a non-native solution is that one can't see the parameters at a glance when mixing. Not the end of the world, but not clean workflow either.

As there is only really one parameter in play here, right-click on the plugin in the mixer area, and from "Select quick control parameter" submenu, choose the relevant parameter (ex. for Pan Knob you might choose the Pan parameter).

That's good, didn't know you could do that. There are really two parameters involved here though, left and right pan.fde101 wrote: Thu Dec 03, 2020 8:13 pm As there is only really one parameter in play here, right-click on the plugin in the mixer area, and from "Select quick control parameter" submenu, choose the relevant parameter (ex. for Pan Knob you might choose the Pan parameter).

Ah... not what I thought you meant by "stereo" manning. I would consider that independent channel panning, or maybe "dual mono", I don't really think of that as stereo panning at all.chagzuki wrote: Fri Dec 04, 2020 8:54 am That's good, didn't know you could do that. I'm not sure if there's an agreed upon terminology, but I hear people refer to left/right channel ratio adjustment as technically 'balancing' rather than panning, with 'true panning' meaning adjusting the position of both the left and right channels. It looks as though Logic handles it nicely.fde101 wrote: Fri Dec 04, 2020 9:37 am Ah... not what I thought you meant by "stereo" manning. If you adjust a balance control to the left of center, it reduces the volume of the right channel but does not add the sound of the right channel to the left channel. This is the functionality that most small mixing consoles offer on their stereo channels, for example.
Panning to the left would add information from the right channel to the left channel.
To my thinking, a stereo control needs to impact both channels with one control. If the channels are being handled independently (left and right) with separate controls, then they are being treated as two mono channels rather than as one stereo channel.

Yeah, so you could have pan and width, with width adjusted with modifier key. If you pan to extremes then width compresses. Kilohearts stereo plugin almost does this sort of thing but the pan is still balancing L/R, not quite the implementation I'm after.fde101 wrote: Fri Dec 04, 2020 11:34 am If you adjust a balance control to the left of center, it reduces the volume of the right channel but does not add the sound of the right channel to the left channel.
