I found Bill Edstrom's video on this very helpful.
The thing is, it works just fine as long as I am entering notes with the mouse, in the editor. But when I enter notes with a controller, they do not show up colored at all. Or I should say they are just one color and not a color that I selected.
To me, this feature would be most useful if it would work when I play notes in, on whatever MIDI device I play them on. Am I missing a setting here?
Using MIDI note colors to edit in key

While maybe not exactly as you would like it, you can SELECT a group of notes or the whole clip, and click the little multicolor button which will then color-code them, and change color of them as you move them up and down...
