One way or another...it would be cool if more developers gave users a clue where the development of plugins is...
We obviously know daws get updates,
Maybe AAS strum will turn gs3,

...Before cakewalk gave up ..they announced lifetime updates etc...haha...

Air is playing with offers...may never update their plugins..
We will see akai MPC 3 ..2.9 just got released as a free update for 2.x
For 3 we will need to pay..:-)

My guess ..
Tassman will get updated :-) too at some point.

Dono ab.isotope..seems like buying bundles
Is crazy good but also soooo confusing .. how to upgrade vsts inside bundles?

I'm a bit of a Geist2 fanboy, as long as I can keep using how it works now I'm happy. Although I'm not going to lie, I do appreciate devs that do regular updates/upgrade very much. Especially over long periods of time. Few can beat u-he in that department imo with really old plugins like uhbik getting complete (free) overhauls and Zebra2 still getting regular updates that will continue alongside Zebra3.

Or is it KVR scaremongering...

It was updated this year.
My intention was not to scaremonger. I just think Geist 2 is a good program and enjoy using it and was wondering what people think will happen to it. Cypher2 and Strobe2 work with Roli's hardware paradigm. They are sufficiently different than Equator 2, in my opinion, that they won't be going away soon.

They didn't when they dropped VST-RTAS, Maul, Bloom, Etch etc...I would certainly advise against buying it until there's some clarity.

So scaremongering then... even though the last update was this year.

I'm well aware about the other discontinued products and would listen if it came from FX, but I wouldn't warn people away from an excellent product because of your opinion, when it has no factual evidence at all.

I agree that FX should step in and clarify.
It's called discussion mate. it often breaks out on a forum, especially after a company gets bought out and drops over half its product line.

Yeah mate, I know. I was contributing to it, not to you... but thanks for the enlightenment.

Angus did chime in in the BFD thread a couple of months back and said that Geist would be OK.

Which is fair enough but I would imagine fails to calm the anxiety of those using products that don't seem to fit in with Roli. Somebody said Blocks might help, hope so.

I can see them doing a blocks pro type thing with a bigger block, and some modulation stuff off to the side, maybe to go along with an mpe groove box thing

Post

I use Geist 2 in almost all my stuff. Before that Geist 1, and before that Guru. Geist 1 and Guru still work fine and open as expected in old projects (and Guru is only 32bit). So that's from Windows XP through 7, 8 and now 10. I'm sure Geist2 will be okay for a long while yet (although can't say the same about OS X should it be abandoned). As long as there's a method/system to activate a fresh install I'm not worried. Also still use DCAM, Tremor and Etch a lot. YMMV.

Post

Yeah, me too. Tremor is awesome. So is Bloom. It still runs fine.

I kinda sorta want a Seaboard and a Blocks thing. A bigger “Pro” blocks would be up my alley.

Are there any Ableton users who own geist and why?

Post

Goldbaby has free MPC swings for Geist, and regarding Ableton, Geist 2 does polyrhythms, Ableton is a pain in the ass to set up for that. So that is why Geist 2 is the superior drum machine to use in Ableton than stock. Not to mention, the effects section and trans mod system are clutch

Post

I can do (more) things easier and faster than in Ableton.

let's be honest, it's been clear for about 2 years that FXpansion is a smelly corpse, and going nowhere. Their line of products is full-price legacy-ware at this point -- that is, what's left of it. The only 'update' we are likely to see for their entire catalog is *maybe* some small updates to Cypher.

RIP. They had some good products while it lasted.
