but forty dollars is out of the question.
especially for essentially a free synth.
Yes sheer profiteering

If the base product is free, everything else must be free? By that logic, all DAWs (and other software) that offer a free version are also severely overpriced and sheer profiteering.

How dare people ask for money for their work. The audacity!
Of course not.
And of course you can charge what you want for your labour and the market will determine if it is worth it.
But surely if I paid Matt $80 for 3 years of work with over 400 presets, unless God himself created them (and I am an atheist) I wouldn't be spending (half of that) $40 for 100 presets... ever.
But that is my personal choice.

Yeah, Matt should really have charged $200 dollars for this synth to make it worthwhile for preset creators

Everyone knows that expensive synths are better than cheap or even *gasp* free ones.

I am not sure how you saw what I wrote and came to that conclusion as to what I was saying at all.
But sure you feel free to spend $40 for 100 presets. It is after all your money.
But yeah $40 is too much for 100 presets in my opinion, even for a $200 synth, and especially for this Synth. Much rather give the money to Matt, which is why I asked him earlier if he gets part of the income from patches sold in his store (and by part I don't mean like 1%).

Yeah, I often think that i.e. Fathom was suffering because it was too cheap, and people didn't take it seriously, when in reality its a beast.

charging money for presets for a free synth is IMMEDIATELY bad form.
but $40 for a bank, for a freeware synth? if you think that's valid then your opinion is invalid.

40 bucks for the Dash Glitch pack indeed seems higher than average (i rarely buy presets anwyay, but I think the usual price is like 15-25 dollars per a pack or something?).

But that guy, Dash Glitch, was making free sound-design tutorials for years, there is a lot of quality free content on his channel. Overall, he has made enough free and useful contribution at least to the psytrance scene.

Aslo making presets for a free synth must take the same time, skill and affort as making presets for a comemrcial one.

So I think there's nothing wrong with him asking whatever price he believes is fair.

Also if I were to buy presets I'd rather buy 100 quality ones that fit the genre I'm making than 300 useless sounds
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

but that's beyond buyer beware
"psytrance scene" my ass

I think nobody forces you to buy the pack anyways

I don't want to spend $40 dollars on 100 presets either, but it has nothing to do with the price of the synth.

And wanting to support the creator of great software is good. I agree with that too. That's why I also donated to some open source projects.

NO, YOUR OPINION IS INVALID :D

Asking for more free stuff after you've already received a great free synth is bad form.

It's much worse to charge money for presets for an expensive synth. When I pay hundreds of $ for a synth, I expect a ton of free presets.

Im sorry you paid for Vital, maybe would have been wiser to use the free version until more bugfixes are addressed, the store is live, the browser is fixed, cpu efficiency is addressed.....so on. Maybe be easy how you address people. You dont know who you are talking to, its so easy to be tough online.....in the real world, in front of someone, not so easy

Post

why is this a battle? if someone wants to charge $40 for their preset bank, they can do that, and we can choose to buy it... or not. i think it's overpriced, but someone else might think it's worth it.

if you're the content creator, you can charge what you want. my own feeling is, if you price things more realistically, you'll sell more. yet that hasn't stopped apple, for example.

just seems a non-issue. buy it or don't. so, let's get back to discussing the synth itself? just my humble suggestion... 8)
